ZBrush 3.5 intermittent crash on startup

So I’m periodically getting a crash from Zbrush 3.5 upon start up with the rather nebulous message ’ Zbrush Executable has stopped working - A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.’

Sometimes I can just run the executable again and it’ll work just fine and other times it’ll keep crashing until it decides otherwise. I haven’t figured out what causes it to change it’s mind but it doesn’t seem to be fixed automatically by rebooting.

I would go ahead and upgrade to Zbrush 3.5r2 to see if it fixes the problem but the link has already expired.

Any insight would be appreciated - thanks!

hi
i have an AMD-powered box so i’m not sure my ‘insight’ will be any helpfull here but i fixed zbush-hard-crashes(the only type i get with zbrush on my amd-computers) by removing all memory-modules but one.this way i got a rock solid zbrush-computer,no crashes, but the victory is somewhat bitter as the computer with zbrush installed on is somewhat memory-crippled and so is my posibility to get (super)hi-detail…
i tried to install zbrush on my newer amd 64 bit box with a lot of memory, but it was crashing again.sometimes zbrush started OK and sometimes i was sitting with a dead computer in front of me.i do not want to remove any memory from my newer comp as i need this memory so i suppose i have to live with zbrush 3.1 on my older athlon-box with memory in only one bank for some time.because of zbrush i was(am) considering buying yet another new computer with specs very similar to yours(intel proc)… but if your comp is crashing as well …

If you submit a support ticket your download link can be renewed so that you’ll get the R2 version. You should also try disabling DEP. The instructions for how to do that are in the TroubleshootHelp folder, in your ZBrush 3.5 directory.
