ZBrush 3.5 and ZBrush 4R3 on the same computer?

Hello,

Is it possible to run ZBrush versions 3.5 and 4R3 on the same computer?

If the answer is yes, does the order of installation matter, ie 3.5 then 4R3?

I currently have v 4R3 loaded and need to run v 3.5 also.

Thanks,
Chris

They should run fine on the same computer but I don’t think you can still activate older versions of zbrush once you have installed them.

3.5 is simply no longer supported. The two versions are unaware of each other and so people who still have 3.5 running are able to have 4R3 on the same computer with no issue. But once that copy of 3.5 stops working for any reason, there’s no way to get it going again. We cannot deliver the installer anymore and the activation system is dead even if you could install it.

Why do you need version 3.5? Perhaps you’re simply missing some aspect of ZBrush 4R3’s use that we can guide you to overcome.

Actually, I am working with someone that only has 3.5 and I need to give them some files. OBJ Export/Import won’t work because I need the subdivision levels intact.

Hopefully they can upgrade, but if not, I wanted to know what my options are. I did not expect that this would work, and I just wanted to rule it out by getting some firsthand info.

Thanks

Have him upgrade. You could also delete the lower or higher subdivisions and just reconstruct and reproject them if you need them.

MentalFrog is right. Since 4R3 is a free upgrade for anyone who’s ever purchased a license, the only reason he could give for refusing to upgrade is that it’s a pirated copy and therefore not eligible. In which case there’s no help that should be given, either.

While I understand there are people using illegal copies, I do think there are reasons for staying with an earlier version.

Companies with IT departments are often slow to upgrade for various reasons that have nothing to do with cost. In fact, its not unusual to be a year or more behind the current version.

I keep several versions of SolidWorks on my computer for that reason and typically work in the the version 1 year behind the current release for “general” compatibility.
