I’m All Smiles…

Smiling Faces.jpg

Ah back to displacing multi UV tiles again…well I hope so

Thanks guys!

I definitely add my voice to the collective cheer, good to see that Pixo is getting back to parallel development of Mac/Win versions. I definitely appreciate the update to the Mac version and the announcement that v.4.0 will be available for both and as a free upgrade. Thanks Pixologic!

Well, first off… why is everyone cheering when this announcement told nothing of what would be fixed? Is there info somewhere that I don’t know about??? Will this update give us all the proper features that the windows users have or not?

I’m glad we got an update but I’m not about to cheer and pat them on the back for skipping the 3.5 update right after they skipped the 2.5 update. Sure 4.0 seems better but IMO 3.5 being delivered months ago as advertised would have been a heck of alot better then all the headaches!

Why applaud a company when they screwed us for months/years prior to this? I’m not saying we should boo and hiss but if we applaud them now and act like nothing ever happened then thats just silly IMHO.

Pixologic, please STOP giving away the major upgrades and use that money to hire some more coders to get the job done and make us all happy for having functional software!

You may be right, John-S: Maybe we are breaking out the streamers and party hats a bit too soon, I don’t know. I know exactly why you feel the way you do. As someone who has never been shy about stating the Mac users case, or about my dissatisfaction regarding Pixologic’s “smoke and mirrors” approach to customer service, I understand your reluctance to jump on the band wagon. It’s been a long road, with lots of time wasted, lots of disappointments, and no real satisfactory explanations as to why.
I have a real/love hate relationship with this company. Overall, I love their product, but hate their way of dealing with customer concerns. It’s extremely frustrating. However, I tend to doubt they get some satisfaction by deliberately trying to disappoint their Mac user base. That wouldn’t do them much good. They know there is some stiff competition out there breathing down their necks for both platforms. They are most likely working tirelessly behind the scenes on our behalf to solve the issues that continue to plague ZBrush for Mac. They just really need to communicate that better to their customers.
I’m being hopeful right now because I finally see some movement in our behalf. I want Pixologic to deliver the goods. I really do. Personally, I don’t want to have to switch to another program if I can avoid it. I am invested in ZBrush. If they disappoint me again, I won’t be shy in saying something about it, or considering my options. There are times I want to really let loose, I’m so frustrated. But, right now, I see some real movement on Pixologic’s part on our behalf. I want to be hopeful, and I want to be reasonable, and reserve judgement until I see what they deliver.

Thanks webhead… I do appreciate your post and agree with you quite a bit there. I don’t think they get off on screwing us mac users. I’m sure thats not the case… And I certainly don’t mean to back hand them for continuing to release an unbeatable product (when its functioning) as they are doing. I just don’t want to give them a standing ovation for releasing something that has caused such a headache and is soooo overdue on their part.

To me releasing it named “4.0” and “free” almost makes me feel that they aren’t taking steps forward. I mean, they just repeated what they did with 2.5 and pissed everyone off. Plus they are making it free which is great… but HONESTLY nobody expects 4.0 to be free and I doubt any of us or going to switch to mudbox just because it costs for an upgrade. Couldn’t they seriously just charge (even at a discounted rate) for their major software updates and then hire more coders to get the job done so we don’t have to wait so long frustrated and out of commission?

Plus it always feels as if alot of the mac users feel as if Pixo is doing us a “favor” or something by developing or working on a mac version. They ARE NOT. Pixologic is a major business and major businesses aren’t in software development to do any one a favor. They are in it for $$$. There is alot of money to be made from the mac community and Pixo knows that so I just hope people realize that. I mean, a few years back one of the heads of Maya stated that the mac maya userbase is around 30%. 30%! Thats alot of $$$ and a solid reason why Maya is still on the mac platform.

Last and not least… I just want to say that it really seems as though Pixologic is like the “Lost” series. For the longest time people really had no idea where they were going with the series INCLUDING the writers I believe. Then a year ago they finally announced that they now had a story outline basicly and the show will go on for 2 1/2 more seasons to its conclusion (or something like that). Well, it always seems as though Pixo doesn’t have a solid business plan and roadmap. The company just feels like its a crazy train out of control. They hit some major grand slams and I truly believe that they had one of the best programs ever created and they themselves are responsible for making the kind of sculpting art possible to do… but please, charge for some upgrades, hire more coders, get a roadmap and help the users understand where its heading at all times (without releasing confidential things that you don’t want the competition knowing of course…).

Anyway, sorry for the rambling. My point isn’t to start a movement on Pixo, insult them or shoot down their coders and developers that have worked hard to push these releases out or turn this into a negative thread about them. I just hope we don’t overshoot things in applauding the powers that be at the company too much.

let’s see what they deliver for OSX on monday, then we can say something good or not so goood once it’s installed and being used.

And be prepared for the usual hassle to download with a lot of mistakes and forgotten people. As in previous days ! Nobody remember that ? It should take IMO at least one whole week to get it on your desktop.

i’m just hoping they did a proper beta test on this one instead of closing their eyes and tossing it out the window

It’s the 27th
So where is the update ?

Well the company is based on the west coast of USA so I guess they arn’t even awake yet. I thinks we shoud wait untill they open for biz.
I have learned that since purchasing ZB back in 2002 your best friend at times like this is good old fashioned patience.

Updates and news usually come late in the day 'round these parts.

Glad to see Pixo replies the feedback. Can’t wait to be happier!

Exactly…
Until its on my comp and doing what it says it will do…

Well since this is just an update patch over your pre-registered 3.12 it should go pretty smooth. No licensing etc. But from what I recall most Pixologic software roll outs happen around midnight… so i’d give it 12 hrs till we see something.

yep. usually 12a.m./1a.m. their (California) time. don’t get discouraged

WOW…

Two mac announcements in one week… Mudbox should do upgrades more often…

Oh, you mean the 28th then right.

Ya never know, it might come on the 27th.
Would that be some kind of record?
Has Pixo ever actually made a release or an announcement on the day that they said they would?

Either way, happy some progress is being made.

…now how much?, well that’s a wait and see kinda thing

The support site has gone away so i wonder if its getting set up. (It goes to the main Pixologic page.
