***** ZBrush 3.12 - for Mac OS X - Available Now *****

So are the two new smooth brushes tweaks of the original smooth brush? It looks like smooth peaks brush is just the standard smooth brush but with the brush mod set to -100 and the smooth valley brush mod set to +100.

Hey Webhead,thank you very much!

Part of my reservation comes from all of the other programs I have so I have to check and see how they perform in it. I am just never an early adopter, partly for cash and partly because I like to make sure things work. I rushed buying a computer last year just so I could get 10.4 since I knew 10.5 wasn’t going to be that stable and I heard a lot of horror stories. I am mostly familiar with the little changes that OSes make and rarely is there a need for pushing one program to a higher OS but this might be one of them.

Hi - where is zbrush telling you how much ram it can see?
Thanks

Testing that now. Glad to hear some folks thought the smooth brush samples were useful.

Okay, I did several tests to attempt to answer your question. In some tests, the differences were much less noticeable between the standard smooth brush and the new smooth brushes when the standard smooth brush was set to either 100% Zadd, or 100% Zsub, depending on the type of displacement it was applied to. Not totally surprising, because Support said there was a work around for Windows users. However, in some cases, there was quite a noticeable difference between the new smooth brushes, and the standard smooth brush, even when it was set at 100% Zadd, or 100% Zsub when applied to particular types of displacements.
Below is one of the more diverse test results. In all tests, the results with the standard Smooth Brush at 100% Zadd were similar, or identical to the results with the standard Smooth Brush at 100% Zsub. I hope you all paid attention, because an oral exam will be given at a future date.

(Results not typical. Your results may vary.)

He’s not talking about zsub or zadd though, he’s talking about the brush mod setting. I still don’t know if it makes a difference though, will mess with it in a minute.

Thanks Webhead:)
Note: In 3.12 there are two smoothing modes, ‘soft’ and ‘strong’, these (and all other 3.12 features) will be included in the next Windows update.

Ooops! Ha-Ha-Ha. My bad. Well, I guess it wasn’t a complete waste of time. I learned a couple things, and got some interesting results, anyway.

Thanks for keeping us posted. I look forward to getting the lowdown on all the new features soon.

Definitely spring for 3GB RAM update, and DEFINITELY install it yourself:

I took the plunge myself after the release date for the update was announced. I can comfortably sculpt with ~8 - 14 million polys. Great, great update Pixologic!

Well I managed 12 million plus with 2GB RAM through subdivision. Using HD I hit 793 million and could still work with the model. Very nice.

edit: Oops, I only used my CoreDuo MacBookPro 17"

Now i´ve got mine too!!!

Good for you Duchamp!
God I hope I’m lucky soon. Another week is drifting by quickly and I’m still plodding away on a Win notebook that just crashes if I try HD sculpting, turntable making, or going over 2mill polys. An undo can take 3 or 4 minutes, meanwhile a gorgeous iMac sits next to it with the grunt to do all those things instantly.

Hey gang!!

Well, 10.5 Leopard got delivered and installed this afternoon, and got the update to 10.5.5 - and I gotta say (although I was a bit hesitant) I’m loving Leopard!! No problems, no glitches - so far anyway - and it’s beautiful.

If you’re hesitating, don’t. Just go for it!

Got ZBrush 3.12 installed and activated, and no problems there either! Slicker than snot on a doorknob! NOW I’m freakin’ excited!!

So, I’m diggin’ in on ZBrush and learn all I can about this thing. Still pretty much a total ‘newbie’ after a years wait, so prepare yourselves for a barrage of dumb questions! (But I won’t ask unless I can’t find it myself.)

I promise my first sculpture won’t be TOO dumb. Or not.

Hey every one. i was wondering if any one knew what the weld feature in the subtool is all about.

Its nice to use zbrush on my mac. Wish that zmapper was available though, needed to project normal maps to different meshes. I am now experimenting with projectall and morphs to see if that works. So far is has in the tests, but it just seems like a bit of a process compared to zmappers project options. any how nice to see the mac side of things again.

I´ve opened my new Zbrush to test it (i can´t wait!!!)
The first thing i´ve done is resizing my canvas to 1500px width proportionally and after that my zbrush´s started with problems refreshing the screen. I atach an screenshot that illustrates it.

The newbie question here is: How can i do to configurate an initial canvas size different than the default one? Maybe is the “change” of size that causes this issue and oppening directly in other size will work well for now…

I created a ztool in zbrushosx and tried to open it in 3.1 on my PC. It would not open. Why? What has changed?
Thanks.

You should post on the support thread I betcha.
But, its because 3.12 is so advanced.
You can go from 3.1 to 3.12, but not backwards.

at least I got it…
