ZBrush 3.12: displacement map resolution

apologies if this has been posted elsewhere–I searched and couldn’t find an answer:

How do you set the resolution of the displacement map in 3.12? I also have a question on the steps needed to export a zbrush model w/displacements into other 3d software (in my case, Modo).

So far, command-highlighting within the app (activating the tool help) doesn’t reveal any answers. Also Z-wiki doesn’t speak to any 3.12 workflows. I’m sure the changes in 3.12 were made to make these processes easier. The irony is, without any documentation it’s currently hard to figure out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry for the drowning swimmer-type post.

The map size is linked to the UV mapping. You set the preferred map size (for any map type) within the UV mapping sub palette.

3.12 is a transition version and its features will be updated in the next major release. However, basic information about the features of 3.12 will be made available in the near future.

thanks!

If any Zbrush veteran with exposure to the new 3.12 wants to shed any more light on this, I’d be extremely grateful.

something i found by playing…

in order to get a Tool’s texture to show up in the actual Texture palette, you have to press the Clone button in the Tool > Texture palette. That way you can export your texture…

it may be the same for the displacement map…??

took me a while to figure that out… haha

I posted a similar question couple of days ago. You set your resolution under the UV map tab and create the displacement map the usual way under the displacement tab, then hit the clone Disp button and the map shows up under the alpha palette ready for export. Hope this helps/works.

thanks Silba and InvertedNormal.

Now if I can clear some time for a bunch of trial and error button pushing–In spite of the lack of docs, it’s great to be back in zbrush after a 2 year break!

Hey Guys I’m new here.
I’m having a huge amount of trouble with the UV and displacement (you can see every seam) in Cinema 4d. Whenever I start with Zspheres the UV is a mess… This used to be amazing in previous versions.

Is this a bug with 3.12?

I had 2.55 (I think that was the version) and it had no problems this way.

Thx
