ZBrush 3.1 Text Test

The test - the image is not rendered and the imported model has not been Geometry divided or HD Geometry divided.

Here are the steps:

  1. download EleFont here http://www.armanisoft.ch/webdesign/elefont/Elefont.html (free)

NOTE: ZBrush will not open the dxf file so step 2 (the program was made for Bryce) and the program only allows lines not multiple lines (as far as I know). Also allows you to pick fonts from what you have on your computer.
BIGGER NOTE: If any of you ZBrush 3.1 Guru(S) can figure out how to import the Elefont dfx please let us know (TIA)

  1. download the free Bryce 5.5 Daz3D and import the dfx model

THEN:

Select only the DXF Mesh (no primitives, ect).
Hit the little “E” next to the object(s), which opens the Smooth window.
Now type Control + D (Command + D on the Mac).
In the File Selector name it and select “Wavefront OBJ” from the popup and Save.

  1. Open ZBrush 3.1 and import the obj model draw it onto the canvas then click edit mode and use rotate - scale - move tools

Zbrush TEXT 3d test.jpg

Maybe I miss something, but why ZB is cool, importing extruded text?
Almost every 3d-program can do it

Hi Bas - been working on that tree:)

To answer your question I don’t have any other 3d apps (have Bryce 5.5 and tried Wings 3d and a few others) and was happy that Zbrush 3.1 loaded the obj (though a round about way getting 3d text into zbrush) after getting something to load and save the dfx I guess I was just happy:)

Aaargh, that tree, almost forgot it
Maybe it’s time to buy a simple modeling program to use with ZB.
Cheers, Bas

Download and install Blender,… its free!

Nevercenter Silo is also an awesome modeling program which is cheap, it’s focus is modeling, I would recommend it. And there’s the free blender of course
