Yeah, I sometimes get this too. I believe it’s the successive key combination - ctrl+alt+right click(assigned to a pen for me) (* actually add a left click in there too, since taping with a pen = left click), if hit together repeatedly, would “freeze” interactivity for zbrush. I guess it’s maybe windows that doesn’t like too many commands at once, since zbrush itself is active as a process.
I ve learnt to be very careful when going from pans/zooms into pop-up menue for brush settings changes…
I assigned the s key modifier to the pen and so far so good .I really gave it my all trying to freeze it. Hope you all have the same luck…
It happens to me too except that it only happens when using my Intuos 3 A4 and it freezes completely. Three times in about an hour today

sorry to bump an old thread but this is a big issue for me over the years i have used zbrush,
I get this error randomly about once a day , both at home and at work…
I definately think its something worth looking into as i have lost more hours of work due to this bug more than any other error combined.
Well since I have disabled my right click function on my tablet pen in Zbrush, I haven’t had this problem since. I found that if I need my quick menu at any time I press Space and it brings it up.
I suggest that anyone who has this problem to disable the right click on their tablet pen in zbrush and if using a mouse do not use the right click in zbrush. I rarely use Space but whne I have used it I havent had a problem.
I also dont use the shortcut keys to “save tool as” as I found that results in alot of crashing upon save.
The only time it crashes now is when I run out of memory, which happens quite often
Hey guys,
I’ve got the same issue here…
To repro => Move the wacom pen randomly on the canvas while pressing the space key. It usually freeze within 10 clicks. I’ve also noticed it happening with the mouse but a lot less frequently.
I’m using:
- Wacom Intuos 3
- Intel 1.83 GHz
- 2 GB of Ram
- Zbrush v3.1 (trial)
Help!
Hello again,
I’m also getting the same problem using this configuration:
- Wacom Intuos 2
- Dual Intel Xeon E5420 @ 2.50GHz
- 8.00 GB of Ram
- Windows XP Professional x64 Edition
- Zbrush v3.1
Anyone?
omg 1+ year of thread and no replies or patches. I’m pretty sure we could have a technical answer by pixologic or at least a workaround. Oh yeah, they are working hard on 3.5 but meanwhile we’re getting screwed down on earth :td:
having this problem since a few weeks as well. the last time I used Z3.1 intensively (almost a year ago) I didn’t encounter this, but now I’m getting it almost every day.
As it happens when you’re trying to adjust the brush really quickly with spacebar/ mouse drag, the bug hits you the hardest when you’re in the flow.
Please fix this major work killer.
Just putting my “me too” in here. This has hapened both on my home machine and work machine at Ubisoft, ever since i started using that spacebar menu so i could clear the interface. And i agree that it has to do with hitting the wrong key or combination while it’s up, because every time it hapens is when I feel myself fumble my keystrokes/clicks while that menu is open.
I find it a little LOL that there hasn’t been any more official responses in this thread about it after all these occurences. Come on guys!
Just lost 4 hours…stupid me not to save, but man, does anyone work at Pixologic?
I hope the new version adresses this issue as fixing this problem alone would warrant an upgrade for myself, seriously i dont mind new features but this one has me the most pissed often mainly because my work is right there it hasnt crashed and i cant save it …
It happends to me every day, using my Cintiq 21ux on Vista x64 system with 8 GB of RAM.
@rayfusion: WORD!
Just bumping this thread to say that I’m in too I really hope they will fix this bug in the next realease
well after thousands of times using the popup this finally started to happen to me yesterday.
i was recording a zmovie, which i never do, so maybe that has something to do with it. and i was using a partially hidden tool that had masking on it.
Same. Just happened to me and im going through Finals, so I can’t really waste the time that this bug just now wasted.
I dont know my pc specs of the top of my head and frankly I dont think it really matters, the range of PCs already in the forums justify its a problem with Zbrush and not their PCs.
uggggg…
can you specify what in particular you were doing, as i did, it might help to narrow down why this happens or what to avoid at least.
I just lose one hour of work. I read this topic and what, nothing . I have to don’t use popup.
Maybe Z4 will be free of this bug.
Its happening to me too. And i agree it is really really really annoying.
Please say that they are fixing it in Z4. Iam so starting up Z4 just to rightclick a whole day
