Zbrush 3.1 Pricing (UK)

A friend of mine mentioned that Mudbox, at £450 was now cheaper to buy than Zbrush. I immediately went to prove him wrong - but found him not only to be correct, but I discovered some oddness in Zbrush’s pricing…

From the Zbrush/cleverbridge store the price is listed at £447.62 before VAT - which it states as being (unusually) charged at 19% (making it £532.67). This is for download only - i.e. No physical CD.

A commercial license (on disc) of Zbrush is listed on bluegfx.com as £434.31 before VAT - which they put at 15% (making it £499.45)

Finally, a commercial license on Studica.com is listed at £383.95 before VAT - which they calculate at 15% (making it £441.54)

I appreciate that Studica could set their prices to whatever they want, but I find it unusual that Pixologic’s own online store is selling a download - which doesn’t require shipping/handling…etc. for almost £100 more than the physical product elsewhere.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

The Pixologic cost is priced in dollars ($595 + VAT) so the UK price must then vary depending on the current value of the £. I bought online in November and the price then was £398.19 + VAT.

Yeah, any dollar price will look steep when converted to pounds as the exchange rate pounds-to-dollars is very poor at the moment. Also the VAT rate will vary depending on where the business is located. Cleverbridge charge 19% because they are located in Germany so have to charge the German rate.

A member is selling his license for a very good price; http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=68834

I recently bought my copy from a member here as well. Before you send anyone money, let the buyer contact Pixologic for the license transfer. Pixologic then contacts you for the transfer, etc. So you know you buy a legal copy and everything is working all right. Then pay the seller. It saves you a lot of money if you can find someone willing to sell his copy for a good price.
