.ZBR Artifacts

Running into a weird problem in Z4 R2.
When I open a .ZBR file, there are artifacts all over the file.

Why is this happening??

I’ve tried saving the .ZBR file at different resolution but the problem remains.
Additionally, the artifacts are stronger on meshes with lower density, and finer on meshes with higher densities.

Hey khalavi. I can’t see your picture so this is just a stab in the dark. Is it maybe a material issue? A different material is assigned to those few polygons? I had this happen when I updated to 4 and for some reason some material info was missing on certain polys. Might have been my ignorance at the time but it took me a while to figure it out. From your explanation that’s what it sounds like to me. Try filling your model with a material and see if the artifacts go away. When random polys have different materials from the base it looks like artifacts. I’ll look again when I’m home to see if I can see your pic, unless you’ve solved it by then.

That looks like your model has been remeshed completely…

Did you do anything other then just open it?
And what does it look like before saving?

Thanks for the response guys.
Nope, not a material issue, like I said, this is only happening when I open a .ZBR file.
Otherwise the everything works fine.

For example, I am working on the model and reach a point where I’ve finalized it.
I drag and drop it onto the canvas to render out. Then I save it to .ZBR format as back-up just in case Zbrush crashes while rendering. At this point there are no artifacts.

HOWEVER, when I open that .ZBR file, the artifacts are there. It’s quite weird. Doesn’t change, even if I change materials or colors etc etc. This never happened to me in Zbrush4.

The image you see below is the problem i’m talking about, and it is happening with every .ZBR file that I am opening.Again, this is only happening with .ZBR files.

Just as a wild guess, try using Deformation>Unify on the mesh before saving on your “good” model. Sometimes, when an object gets too large in the Zbrush worldspace, weird stuff like that can happen.

Sadly I can report the same issue here with ZBrush 4 R2 Mac - artifacts on all saved documents.

@Spyndel: Actually, its happening the other way around. The artifacts reduce when the subd level is higher. I’ve sent a query to tech support as well, they acknowledge that the problem is there, and there is no fix for it.

@boozy floozie: Lets hope this is fixed in the next update…

Many thanks Khurram for replying and confirming this seemingly glossed over glaringly major issue.

Core functionality to facilitate artistic endeavors broke.
Fellas and God’s on high if your reading this can’t there please oh please be an interim bug fix?

I just wanna make pictures. Pretty pictures with all the loveliness of R2. I wanna mix old skool with new skool. The Muse is upon me , help me release it gentlemen.

Say you can? Say you will?
