ZB4 Lasso (De)Selection

One of the painful processes when doing hard surface stuff on ZB is
selecting precise polygon groups for creasing.

In ZB3 You Ctrl-Shift Drag to lasso, then release shift to hide polygons.
It hides all polygons that are ENTIRELY ENCLOSED by the selection area.
Polygons that overlap the selection area are NOT hidden.

In ZB4. You Ctrl-Shift Drag to lasso as before, but releasing shift has no
effect. OK, I figured out you have to hit Alt to remove polys.

BUT It removes all polys even partially overlapped by the selection. NOT
just polys totally enclosed by the selection.

So how in ZB4 do you remove a single polygon from the visible set of polys.

Edit: Or to put it more simply perhaps. How do you progressively hide
polygons?

G.

Yes, it looks as though this is broken for hiding polys, unless there’s a way I don’t know about. It works for hiding everything else, so you could select the poly with the green lasso then Shift+Ctrl+click on it to reverse visibility.

There’s another way:

  1. Select and hide the polygon - all polygons under the lasso will be hidden.
  2. Press Tool>Visibility>Grow. The outer ring of polygons will be shown again (those originally only partially covered by the lasso.

EDIT: sadly this is not reliable.

Thanks Marcus.

You must be putting in overtime today

No. I don’t think the ‘grow’ trick is going to work.

I guess my workflow will be ZB3 for creasing, then ZB4

I’ve attached a JPG showing what I was trying to do.

For something like that I think I would use the green lasso (which does work) and reverse visibility when done. I’d also use polygroups, grouping visible at different stages, so that it is easier to isolate the polygons I want.

But whatever works for you. At least you do have the option of using 3.5.

Thanks Marcus, but the green lasso doesn’t work in this case because the
mesh isn’t symmetric.

There’s no single view where I can select just the poly’s I need.

Thanks anyway.

YES!! THIS IS GREATLY OBNOXIOUS!! Also adding to a hidden selection some times just inverts the selection. AND having to hit alt screws with me all the time… I’ll hit it too fast and get that warning about keyframes.
Hitting alt is something to get used to but hiding polys you want to hide seems to be broken, unless some one knows something I’m not getting? I’d hate to have to go back and forth from 3.5 to 4.
I LOVE all the new stuff in 4, but I’m finding so many issues that are driving me nutty.

I’m sure hoping this is fixed in the upcoming release. I can’t use ZB for
lo-res modelling when I can’t set up polygroups or creases accurately.
