ZB3.5r3 render crash

Hi, I upgraded to 3.5r3 recently and I seem to get random crashes when I render.

The crashes are more frequent if the canvas size is large (3200x2400+), poly count is high (12mil+) and happens much faster with an object with any subtools. This has happened on every PC I have tried it on, even my new(ish) laptop.

The thing is I can’t seem to replicate this issue in ZB3.1 which renders fine whatever the canvas size or poly count.

Specs are:
PC1:
Wacom Cintiq
Intel Q6600
8GB 8GB DDR3 Dual Channel OCZ Gold Ram
Windows Vista Home Prem X64
2x Nvidia 8800gtx (sli mode)
Gigabyte N650 ds4l-sli mobo
2x 300gb Sata HD
2x DVD RW

PC2:
2x LCD
Intel Q6600
8GB DDR3 Dual Channel vista Ram
Windows Vista Home Prem X64
1x Nvidia 8800gtx (sli mode)
Asus P5K-VM mobo
1x 500gb sata HD
DVD RW

Laptop:
HP HDX9200
Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 2.5ghz
4gb Ram
Vista Home 32
2x 250gb HD

Any Help would be appreciated as I’m pulling my hair out.
Thanks.
Nick.

3.5 has made some major enhancements to the rendering engine so that you have much better shadows when sculpting your model in real-time. From what you’ve said, it sounds like you’re doing a best render while the model is still in edit mode. Is that true? If so, what happens if you exit edit mode before doing the best render?

If it still crashes, is it happening with specific materials or with every material? What are your render settings? How about your light settings?

Hi Aurick,

Thanks for the reply.
I’m having mixed results with your suggestions.
On PC 2 dropping the model onto the canvas has seemed to have solved the problem as I produced about 20 renders with different materials with no problems.
On the laptop the results were better but I still suffered a crash about 1 in 5 times @3200x2400. Seems fine @2000x1500
On PC1 dropping to canvas seems to have had no effect, Although this system has been giving me some problems recently so I will replace the mobo do a clean install and try again.
Regarding setting. All lights and render settings are at the default.

For now I’m happy to have ZB working on my Render station I’ll let you know the results of the clean install.

Thanks for your help.

Nick.
