ZB3.5 - Move Brush and unifying meshes

OK, just testing out 3.5.

  1. What happened to the Move Brush? in ZB3, when you held down the ALT you would get a bulge or dip based on the geometry normals. Now, this doesn’t happen!!! That was an important function of the Move Tool.

  2. I thought 3.5 had the ability to unify meshes like 3dcoat but I can’t find the function. I know that there is unified skin but it can’t handle complex overlapping meshes. The only thing I found was ‘weld points’ next to the merge visible button in the subtool menu.

Still taking baby steps with learning the new functions. Not a big fan of some of the new brushes but I suppose that it will take time to find a good use for them.

The move brush by default moves points along the viewing plane.

If you press down with the move brush then hold Shift, it moves perpendicular to the Normals. (the behavior you are referring to)

If you pRess down with the move Brush then hold ALT, it moves points along the surface.

OK, so you need to press and hold the mouse button first then press shift to get the bulge. That sucks. I don’t plan on using the current ALT function so I don’t know why it can’t be customisable. Let us decide what Alt and Shift do. With the current Shift setting to move along normals seems counterproductive to me.

Thanks for that info.

Cheers,
Paul

It’s exactly the same as ZB 3.1

The only difference is, in 3.1 the Alt key duplicated that same functionality in the reverse direction Whereas as now, the Brush has more functionality than it did before.

Being able to customize behaviors is always desirous.

No, it isn’t the same functionality as 3.1. Because in 3.5 you need to press the mouse button first then the shift key but it only allows you one attempt at moving polygons along its normal. If you want to do it again, you need to do the same thing again. In 3.1, you could hold down the Alt key and continuous pull out polygons along their normals.
Because I used this function alot during my sculpting, the 3.1 version was how I liked it. Now, I have to continuously repeat the first process mentioned to achieve the same result and it’s frustrating.

Yes, the alt function is different. I addressed your comment about the Shift function, which is exactly the same.

I’m sorry you feel you’ve lost here, but moving points along a surface is a very useful function, and in my opinion, a much larger net gain for the tool than that situational convenience you feel you’ve lost. Luckily you can use both program versions along side each other, if you prefer working in one over the other, or not at all, if you’d prefer to wait and see if the next version restores that functionality, or gives you a better option for customizing the behavior.

Hey mix mash
do you found any solution?
i’m in the same boat
