ZB 4r8 p2 - New project is not saving Undo History

I updated to 4r8 p2 the other day when it was released and since then, any new projects I create will not save the Undo History.

I have created several new projects in p2 to test this and none of them appear to be saving Undo History. I have verified that the Preference is enabled and that I am saving the ZProject as I have in the past. I also made sure to follow the original upgrade instructions when moving from 4r7 and did a fresh install of 4r8. I did however use the ZUpgrader to update p1 to p2.

What is really strange is that I opened a project I started in 4r8 (before p1 or p2) and the Undo History loads fine from that file. I also made several changes to that same project to add to the Undo History and saved that file and those changes appear to load without a problem.

Based on that it appears p2 has the ability to load and save Undo History but will not do so if it is a brand new project created in p2.

If anyone has any help or advice, I would love some assistance in figuring this out.

Thanks

I was able to save a newly created project with an undo history just now in P2, and successfully load the same.

Is the project you’re trying to save an undo history for especially large? (>2gb)?

It sounds like you understand this perfectly well, but just to make certain, be sure to activate the File > UndoHistory button, and save via the same file menu, not the tool menu.

<double post>

Seems like the trick was the File > Undo History button. I don’t recall ever having to turn that on and its especially odd that it seems to override the setting in Preferences > Undo History.

Even worse that it seems the basic projects in Lightbox (Dynamesh Sphere for example) seems to have this option off so even if you set it in one project, loading one up that it is not enabled will turn that button back off.

Thanks for the help though. I didn’t even know that button was there so I will just have to make sure I check it before I start saving my projects.

Once you toggle it on in a file, the setting is persistent between saves, so if you work mainly out of projects you’ve already saved with it, you’d never have to touch it again.

The reason it’s not on by default, is it can rapidly bloat the file size for large projects, leading to technical issues.
