ZAppLink workflow question and problem (WITH VIDEO) [resolved]

Hello,

Please correct me if I’m wrong but

  • you don’t need to use ProjectionMaster in order to use ZAppLink? ZAppLink does the drop & pick up for you automatically?
  • you don’t need to have UVs, you can use Polypainting instead?

Now my problem is this: I am SURE that I am NOT in Perspective, I have NO UVs set up, no texture selected, only Polypainting enabled. I transfer the document to Photoshop with ZAppLink, paint my texture, save it and go back to ZBrush. It asks me to Keep New Layer, I say Yes, then it asks me to delete new layer (?), I say Delete and finally I can pick up the document (Perspective is enabled). I also see the painted texture exactly the same way as it should appear. But after the pick up, the texture gets distorted. I figured out this is because now Perspective is TURNED on?! It projected the texture which I painted in orthographic mode to the model in perspective mode? Why? Perspective was turned off.

EDIT: I just noticed that this is a pure ProjectionMaster problem. Weird. I am going to record a video to show you what I mean.

Ok, here’s the video. I hope you can see it. Have you noticed how Projection is switched from off to on after I pick up the document?

hey i can confirm that this is happening not sure why. two things i noticed, i don’t think it happened if i only used polypaint mode in PM. Also if i left Perspective on it did work a few times, but i swear that it then turned perspective off when once when exiting PM.
needs more testing from someone more in the know.

edited the word projection to perspective above, sorry.

also the more i play with it, if i let it make the mistake the first time but don’t undo and just go back into PM it seems to work fine.

I opened a support ticket in this matter. Let’s see what the support says.

Hello

I am not having the same issue as you but I also noticed something that you were doing. You went to the Texture Palette to make a 2K map. You do not have to do that in 3.5 anymore. Under the UV Map menu you will see the 2048 button. Click on that and then in the Texture Map menu click new texture. You will get a clean 2K map. ZBrush has changed now to the UV Map sub-palette controls a tools map sizes for Displacement, Normal and Texture Maps.

The Texture Palette is more for import/export, using a texture to paint with or edit a texture.

Will be testing your issue more.

Hi,

After playing a bit more with 3.5 I noticed this too. Pretty useful

My Support Ticket Status went from ‘Open’ to ‘Escalated’ What does that mean?

Patrick

Hello

Your ticket was sent to a support person to look into.

This is related to the saved file. If the ztool is saved with perspective ON, then PM will switch it on when picking up. If perspective is off when the ztool is saved then PM behaves as expected (indeed, will switch off perspective if it was on when the tool was dropped).

Solution - save the file with perspective OFF.

OK, thank you for helping me out with this matter.
