ZappLink problem

Im in need of some help…

im trying to use zapplink but for some reason it just dosn’t want to work on my machine.

i installed the plug in and looked like it installed fine. but when i go into zbrush and hit zapplink, it opens up Photoshop (im using CS3) and stops right there. it dosnt import an image of my model or anything.

now im running Windows Vista 64 on an Intel Mac. i dont know if that would cause any problems.

anybody have any ideas on why im getting this issue and how i can fix it?

Thank you guys.

i’m going to blame apple. fix, get a PC. But seriously, uninstall Zapplink and try reinstall. That fixed the problem on my stupid mac. If that doesn’t work, i have no idea.

goodluck

Thanks for the reply goast666, but no luck =(

any body else know what could be causing this problem? or how i can posably fix it?

Thanks

Yeah I’m having the same problem. The plugin worked great for a while, but recently just up and stopped working. Tells me ‘unable to open external editor.’

I’m gonna try and figure out a fix.

This is a known issue with CS3 on Vista, particularly when on a Mac.

do you know if there is a fix for it??

do you know if there is any way to fix it??

Okay I took the time to figure it out. It was a minor annoyance so I didn’t push my effort into figuring it out. Not sure if my solution will help anyone but just in case…

I have Comodo firewall, I’ve been having driver problems since I started using the software. Zapplink and Zmapper, as well as other plug-ins were not installing correctly because the firewall was blocking something during the process. I tried to turn off the program while installing and it didn’t help. I wasn’t certain Comodo was the problem until I just tried uninstalling it and then loading up Windows fresh and reinstalling my video card drivers and my zbrush plug-ins.

Zmapper and Zapplink work for me now. Hope you guys can figure out how to fix yours.

I’m having the same problem as the above.
I’m running Vista on a brand new PC.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling from the same installer but it didn’t install.
You have to unZip the file again then reinstall.

But it still wouldn’t open up the ZApplink file in CS3. It opens CS3 but no file.

So I tried changing the external photo editor to Corel Photopaint.
With that I get the following error message…

File C:\PROGRAM FILES\PIXOLOGIC\ZBRUSH3\ZStartup\ZPlugs\ZAppLinkData\TempZAp pLinkExport.psd not found.

It seems like ZApplink isn’t creating the temp PSD file for Photoshop to open up?

Anyone any ideas how to fix this?

Just a quick reply.
I use Comodo on an intel Q6600 etc machine (no mac crap) and Windows XP64 Pro.

Everything works perfectly under Comodo so I assume there is a different cause for your problem.
I hope by eliminating this it helps.

Thanks for the replays guys. but i think its just a problem running Vista… i guess ill just wait till zbrush comes out on mac and hope for the best.

Thanks
happy brushing

I found the solution to this problem on one of many other threads about this problem and thought I’d post the solution here for those who haven’t found it yet.

The actual problem:
ZApplink opens CS3 but there’s no image.
I nailed this down to being a Vista problem so I put it all on my other pc with Windows XP and it worked fine.
I still didn’t know how to get round it though until I read vincemaximus’s post in another thread.

The simple solution:
“Go to your program files and right click the ZBrush.exe file and select Run as administrator”
That’s all I had to do and it now works fine!
Be sure to run Photoshop as Administrator too or you won’t be able to save theTempZAp pLinkExport.psd back to ZApplink.

To gymfranco

woohooo it worked… when i ran zbrush as Administrator it fixed the problem.

Thank you very much. I never would have thought of doing that.

by the way, here is the project im working on.

im gana throw it into PS and texture it now…

what i have now is just poly paint in zbrush

its my first real zbrush model. Zombie.jpg
