ZApplink or Polypaint while viewing bump displacement?

Hi all,
I think the answer to this is “no,” but I have to ask.
I have a low resolution real time model. I have a normal and/or displacement map for the same.
Can I drop in the displacement map and view it’s details on the low model while painting on a separate texture or polypaint?

Polypaint is out since it requires textures to be off, right?
And if I paint in Projection Master or ZApplink, I’ll lose the bump info the minute I pick the thing up, right?

Let’s assume the high model is not fit for polypainting (something to be sure not to do in the future)–or maybe that it’s been lost.
