ZApplink 4 not working in ZB4

Hi,
Sorry, I found a related thread on this the other day where the proposed solution was a complete uninstall/re-install…i tried that and its still not working, but can’t find that thread to post to it, so i’m starting a new one.

So as the title states, I can't get ZApplink 4 to work in ZB4. So here's what I did:
  • fresh install of ZB4
  • unpacked the ZApplink4 zsc and folder to the ZStartup/ZPlugs folder
  • started ZB and drew a tool on to the canvas
  • hit the Document->ZApplink button
  • Checked the perspective and fade check boxes (no Colorize option/dialog appears as noted in the manual)
  • in PS, i draw on layer 1 and save the file
  • back in ZB i hit Re-Enter ZBrush button
  • I see the strokes i drew in ZB on my tool at this point
  • I hit the Pickup Now button
  • ZB4 shows progress for ZApplink at the top left
  • the strokes i saw before disappear when progress finishes

in case it matters:

  • Mrgb button is pressed
  • Poly paint is on
(i tried it with both off as well…no difference)

as mentioned, i tried a complete uninstall and re-install and that hasn’t resolved the issue either.

does anyone have any ideas what might be going on here? I’ve never had this problem in ZB3.5 and ZB4 and ZApplink 4 work fine at home for me (this issue is with my work PC)

my setup:
Dual core i7
6GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD 5700 with latest drivers
running windows 7 pro 64 bit

Thanks!

I’ve been away from Zbrush for a while. Now I’m back to work on a project and I have been having an impossible time with Zapplink. No matter what I do I can’t seem to “pick up” my work when I save the photoshop work and return to zbrush. It keeps wanting to send me back to photoshop. And I go back and resave. No luck. I’ve spent hours working on this problem.

I reinstalled the latest downloaded Zapplink version. I’m working on a 32bit XP operating system with Zbrush 4.0.

I’ve used Zapplink in previous versions of Zbrush so I’m pretty sure it’s not operator error, but one never knows.

Anyone have any ideas about this. (I see that some folks reported this experience, but I didn’t find any solutions…maybe I missed something here.)

Hi Nancyan,
yeah, this one’s pretty odd. the only way i’ve gotten this to work is to poly paint the entire mesh a base color first. for some reason, if i do that, i can pickup zAppLink data then.

here’s a link to another thread on this subject where i posted the above workaround in case you’re curious.

em…

Well these things always workout as follows

  1. tear my hair out with a problem and spend hours fruitlessly trying to figure it out.
  2. Finally give up. Search the forums unsuccessfully for solution.
  3. Post the problem.
  4. immediately figure out what I did wrong.

And what I did wrong is I was so focused on all the little details of making my texture and duplicating the material shading that I merged down in the wrong order and lost the correct layer names. (I’ll pause here a moment to boink myself on the forehead)

BUT on the plus side I discovered that masking the object works beautifully with Zapplink so I can repair those little blurry spots (who knew - and no I didn’t rtfm… I tried that in the past and it makes my brain hurt.)

oooo thanks for the assistance chan1234! Our postings crossed in the ether or I would haved mentioned my thanks in my reposting  I think you may have had a different problem there and I hope you found a solution. So frustrating when you need it and it doesn’t work.
