zap link to fix seems problems

Hi,
I have been using zap link to fix uv borders. It is very easy to project on photoshop the view port of zbrush and paint over the seems.
BUT,this worjs great for normal textures as difuse, specular, etc…etc…the problem comes when I try to do this process for a displacement texture.
I do the following:
1-extract displacement as usual from the mesh
2-I take that displacement texture and import it as texture
3-use the zap link to fix seems
4-save this new texture with every thing fixed as my new displacement.

At this point I am very happy, but when I render this new displacement I get depressed…the render is very bumpy.aparently during the process, the original texture is messed up.I think that it is because it is transformed in a 8 bits textures.(originaly it was 16 bits)…So I thought to transform this 8 bit texture in 16 bits again…but it doesn´t work because once it is transformed in 8 bits,it doesn´t matter to put it back to 16 bits.

Does that make any sence or am I imagining things.I will never get ride of those damn uv borders!!

ps:i know there is a script around for maya that works great for mental ray´s aproximation editor, but I am using renderman so it doesn´t work.

Any suggestions?
thx

My understanding is that you’re not supposed to open displacement or normal maps in any application. Doing so corrupts them. You just export them and use them as is. I would try fixing the seam at the source instead of putting a band aid on it. Check your UVs layout against your map. Odds are you just need to expand the edges of your displacement before you export it out of zed brush, or something similarly simple.

Yea,the problem is that the caracter is spiderman, and every part of the suit matches perfectlys,so moving edges breaks the microbump of the texture:confused:
I am looking for a solution that doesn´t toush the uvs…so I am fff…
Thx
