Z4r2b:[Bug?] "WSize" on by default...ZPR Files not saving proper dimensions.

I just recently began exploring the new update to R2, and have not been following the forums, so feel free to link me to a thread where this might have already been addressed. Was unable to locate the subject via search.

Win 7 64:

I don’t know if this is deliberate, unintentional, or a local issue for me, but I lost an entire night’s worth of work when I found that Z4r2b ZPR files (File>Save As> were not saving proper document dimensions. I would save the file at a higher resolution (in a project that required me to reproduce the exact dimensions every time), only to find that all my iterative saves would open at reduced dimensions.

This has never been a problem previously. The File menu has been very reliable for years. Indeed, I was able to open pre-R2b zpr files, and save them again without issue.

I determined that the culprit is the “WSize” function in the document palette, next to “New Document”. I cant remember it ever being a problem before, or even noticing it being on, but now it seems to be on by default, causing the document to open/save at the viewport pixel dimensions. If I disable it, I can save a ZPR file and open it as normal. IN my pre-R2B update .zpr files, the function is disabled.

The problem is it is on by default, and no amount of saving startup documents, or configurations will disable it on startup. If I turn it off one time, it’s on the very next time I start the program. I physically deleted the startup document and the CustomUserInterfaceZr2.cfg from the zbrush directory, but it’s still there.

Since I can’t remember ever touching this control before (I cant even figure out why anyone would want it, really), I went back to check older versions to see what the status was previously. I cant check pre update 4r2, because it was overwritten, but I checked Z4, and Z3.5. Interestingly, I now have the exact same issue in Zbrush 4, where it is on by default. In Zbrush 3.5, however, WSize is disabled by default. I can’t imagine what resource ZB4 and Z4r2B might be sharing that 3.5 isn’t, or how the update might have otherwise retroactively affected this change.

This is a fairly debilitating issue, as if I don’t remember to disable this control every single time I start a new Zproject, the project will be lost on save. I need to be able to open up the exact same dimensions, and derive further passes. Even if I put down a marker, Id have to manually match the old dimensions, and hope there aren’t any minor variations from the redraw.

Any help would be appreciated.

You can record a Macro disabling the button, then getting the Macro to run automatically everytime you start ZBrush? Workaround for now.

Is it active by default for you as well, or am I looking at a local issue?

Yes, it’s on by default and Store Config doesn’t disable it.

A caution though. If the project file was saved with WSize on, then the project file will open with it on, regardless if WSize is disabled at startup. You would have to open all your project files and re-save them with WSize off.

Yes, this is the problem. It’s not an issue for my old ZPR files, where the function is disabled ( I never had to touch it before). But for any new document, I have to remember to disable it, otherwise the file save will always fail until I do.

Not insurmountable, once I figured out what was causing it, but it’s a persistent landmine. I’ll look into making a macro.

I can’t imagine ever needing this function, let alone having it be default behavior. Imagine if you lost the resolution in photoshop every time you saved a file, unless you flipped a switch every new document. As far as I’m concerned, they can rip this feature out of the program, and kill it with fire.

I think the Macro would be the way to go. If you havn’t run a Macro automatically at startup before, see my post here.
