Z4R2 slowing to a crawl.

Hey community,

Recently I have noticed my ZBrush performance drastically deteriorating. At first I thought it was just my current project having too many subtools with max standard subdivisions but when I deleted all but one (my characters eyeball) there is still no improvement in responsiveness. I’m talking up to 16 seconds just to undo 1 step!

I’m quite certain this was not happening a week ago.

The relevant system specs are:

i7 860
16 GB DDR3 RAM

& ZBrush is installed on a Crucial M4 SSD.

I have plenty of disk space available so I don’t think that would be the issue (not sure if ZB uses virtual memory).

All of my drivers and firmware are up to date.

Anyone else experiencing this problem?

Thanks.

It seems the problem may just be related to polypainting and also having high res maps loaded in the texture slots (I have recently started painting the iris of my characters eye).

This is frustrating because I have 16GBs of RAM that is barely being touched by ZB which would solve the issue of geometry limitations.

I also suspect that if ZB could use my graphics card there wouldn’t be a problem with polypaint or texuture maps (I have 3GB VRAM).

It would be nice if ZB could be GPU accelerated. I would pay an upgrade fee for that.

Anyway, ZB5 64bit is on the way so lets hope our troubles here are coming to an end…
