I was just thinking that it would be cool to have a twist brush for twisting the mesh for twisted horns or any deformation that could use it like tree branches i think it would be useful and and give more variety to organic forms in conjunction with the snake hook it could add a lot of form and functionality…

im kind of surprised something like this isn’t already added as a brush…

hey sonn, i don’t get a crash with the morph brush if the mesh is partially hidden, is it happening with all your models?

troy that would be cool, specially if it took pen rotation into account

spaceboy412: lol, I just did a test on a sphere and it crashed zbrush. Here’s a step by step on how to crash zbrush with the morph brush:

create a sphere and convert to 3d mesh
subdivide 3 times
now hold ctrl+shift and hide a portion of the mesh
Click “storeMT” under "morphtarget
draw something using any brush, like standard brush.
now using the morph brush try to morph back what you drew in the previous step

Let me know what happens

troy1617: I think I’ve suggested that before. If not, I’ve thought about it  But it would be really cool to have a brush like that. The Snakehook brush kind of does that, but it’s not very effective.

sonn i know the issue of what you speak, its not the brush. you are doing it wrong(although i agree it shouldn’t crash)
you need to store the morph target before you hide your mesh. because a morph takes the whole mesh into account.

aah, you’re right. But then I can’t use “switch”… It would’ve been nice if the “switch” function worked on a partially hidden mesh. And I use that function to do a before and after comparison. That’s basically the reason I store the morph target after I partially hide the mesh. It seems like right now I have to choose between the two if I want to work on a partially hidden mesh. which is a bit odd, and a pain working on huge meshes if I have to unhide everything everytime I want to use the “switch” function.

Thanks for the suggestion.

THAT IS A FANTASTIC IDEA!

john, marcus wrote a plugin that works similarly to what you are talking about, storedrawsize or something like that.

i agree, i was just saying there is a “workaround” until they integrate it, hopefully next month, fingers crossed

Once u do a best render and u clear the canvas could it please not go into best render mode. Sheesh just clear the canvas ok.

thanks for pointing that out spaceboy sounds great:)

I’ve always wondered why ZBrush doesn’t have a face-smoothing option like you see in other applications. Like Blender’s ‘Set Smooth’ and ‘Set Solid,’ or another app’s Smooth Shading or Solid Shading.

I don’t think the ZBrush UI/Navigation is that bad, it’s pretty unique. As for the maya stuff, that’s a bign no-no, I hate trying to navigate inside of maya, it’s trying to reinvent the wheel. Whereas 3ds max follows alot of the same kind of manuevering concepts of other programs. Plus as a day job i’m an architect so 3DS Max fits right in there with autocad, but either way it’s just preference. But if it ever were to be discussed on which UI to mimic I definetely think they should go with the industry standard, thus I’ve come to the comparison: Maya to 3Ds Max is what an iPod is to the Zune. The ipod is a bunch of fancy pretty colors whereas the Zune is more industrialized and is more uniform in terms of previous electronics.

It’s not about which is right and which is wrong, they’re all right and they’re all wrong. It’s about giving users options, not changing the default navigation interface. A user who is used to maya is going to be more comfortable with a maya-like interface, same with max or zbrush styles. XSI is a good example of how this should be approached- they have their own non-standard navigation interface (which imo makes a helluva lot more sense than max OR maya, even though i’m a die hard max user), but they give you the option to change to the navigation scheme of whichever application you’re most used to.

i like options almost as much as I like ice cream. and I love ice cream.

Id like to be able to use the 2.5d brushed on a 3d model without having to go thru projection master(drag line is the one i would most definitly like to see), I would also like for there to be place to store 2 or more 3d brushes and allow hotkeys to quickly move from one to another, going back and forth thru the fly out menu gets anoyying

I don’t know if this has been told, but I’d like to see an option that keeps the brush size relative to the model as you zoom in or out.

yes, I saw that only after I posted.
anyway it’s better this way, maybe Pixo will comply if there are more voices

The ability for 3d layers to work across subdivision levels.

The ability to merge specific 3d layers - merge selected or merge visible.

I would like colour layers like in photoshop but across 2.5 and 3d hopefully lightbox will deal with this

Pick an edgeloop as the topological center, or be able to move/rot a gizmo to aid working on models that may be 45 degrees off any axis. Poseable symmetry only has about a 66% accuarcy in these situations.
