z4 questions? (solved)

hey guys

im just wondering

in Z4, how can i marquee mask? (the new mask brushes confuse the heck out of me). when i marquee it always makes an isolation of whats selected(and not masked).

another question, i read that in z4, u can use the move tool to move all subtools at the same time(like if it was a funcional transpose master). is this true? and if so How?

cheers

nobody? :frowning:

If you are hiding parts instead of masking I suspect you are using the shift key along with the control key. Hold down just the Control key and select the marquee style selection tool from the options in the brush palette (now reduced to masking options while you hold Ctl down).

Start dragging from from a spot off the model to marquee select. To unmask parts hold down CTL and ALT together. I’m retopolgizing something right now so I can’t test this, but I believe that if you start drawing ON the mesh you will be in free draw mode, so you need to start outside the mesh to draw out a rectangle marquee shape.

My apologies in advance if I’m misreading your question, but hopefully this info is helpful.

thanks. That solved the Masking part

For the second part, it sounds like you’re referring to the contact point feature for applying transforms from a primary mesh to an ‘attachment’. To use it,

  1. select a subtool, and in the tool menu and roll out the contacts panel.
  2. go to the move tool and draw a transpose line from a point on the subtool to a place on the main mesh.
  3. in the contacts panel, hit the c1 button to save the connection.
  4. do it two more times for the other two contact buttons. Seems to work best if you try to choose points on the subtool that are far away from each other, and connect them to points on the main mesh that are close.
  5. after you transpose your main mesh, choose the subtool and hit apply in the contact panel to cause the subtool to move to match the main mesh.

Depending on the points you’ve chosen, the subtool may not match exactly, and will require further tweaking to get it all the way in place.
Also, it does not work to modify the main mesh again and re-apply the contacts; you’ll need to undo the application to restore the subtool to its original place before hitting apply a second time.
