BUG Z4: Layers, Polypaint, HD and Materials Problems

So I’ve got this character I’m working on, and this character has several layers holding paint (no shape, or masks, but I’ve not split them off):

Oh my. And that about spells it out. I’ve tried this from several different angles. I’ve tried going down to the base object with all the layers off and removing the material there. I’ve tried switching into HD and removing the material there. Doesn’t matter where I do it, if I hit the object with Flat Color fills, it totally garbles the polypaint layers.

Follow up: There’s apparently a knowledge base issue open on garbled layers and hiding. Why it wasn’t doing it before I removed the material with the flat color fill I’m not exactly sure, but regardless, I think I can move on from here. The fix is to turn off all the other layers. If you do that, the garbling doesn’t appear.

Follow up #2, apparently I spoke too soon. So I went in after removing the materials from the model at the base and layers with Flat Color, isolated the ear polygroup, went into HD on the layer I wanted to paint and… it dropped the working material again for flat color. So while in HD, I set it to Flat Color, painted all. This appeared to clear the problem, it switched the HD portion of the model back to my working material. However, when I switch out and checked the layers, my base had been painted over with the polypaint of the layer I had been working on. So from what I can tell, layers appear to be incompatible with HD sculpting, at least in any predictable sense. I’m opening a ticket and calling this a bug. If anyone else has ideas or can show me how to make HD work with layers, I’ll greatly appreciate your time.

I too am having a problem with HD sculpting that sounds similar nimajneb’s issue. I’m not using any layers. However, it seems as though every time I hit “A” I begin to lose quallity from areas that I finished just a few minutes prior. Also i get artifacts from the the diferent Matcaps that I apply, ussually at the seams.

Also HD Geometry can’t be deleted? What’s up with not being able to delete higher SDiv levels? Is that a bug? Or is it just a limitation with ZB4.

And last can anyone recomend a good source for learning HD sculpting the correct way, other than the ZClassroom?
