Z pixel engine

hi there
i’m pretty much interested in how zBrush deals whith so many polys
where dose the z pixel calculation take place is it on the grafik card?
i’m playing around whith some very basic 3d engine coding and I’d like to know why it’s so much faster to calculate the z value of each pixel than to calculate polys. (if i got it right)
and where dose the polys come in game in the z bruch engine.

a short overview or a weblink to related topics would be enough whithout reviealing any secrets.

does anyone know what i am talking about?

is there anyone whith the same interest out there I’d like to know

please reply

as far as i know calculation takes place on your cpu. there is not as much stress on the video card.

ZBrush is software rendered. It doesn’t make use of the video card.

Beyond that, I can’t say anything because ZBrush’s renderer is proprietary.
