I like it a lot!

I read what you wrote about vray skin mtl and I totally agree. I played a lot recently with the vray sss2 and vray skin material and it was frustrating to try to get some exact colors where i wanted. I finally discovered that it is far easier just with a basic vray material and just use the translucency. It is supposed to be more precise (and a bit slower) calculation this way. And now that I know how to use it I can’t imagine using sss2 or skin mtl again… there is also the new VrayScatterVolume in vray 3, but I haven’t really tested it yet.

There was a very good explanation about how to use the translucency on the vray form by Svetlozar Draganov from Chaosgroup: http://forums.chaosgroup.com/showthread.php?72613-How-does-VrayMTL-translucency-work/page2&highlight=translucency

here is what he says:

"Translucency - it is an older approach but it generates more accurate result than FastSSS2 and because of that it is slower.

FastSSS - this material is optimized for SSS calculations of objects with volume, it generate much faster but less accurate result than VrayMtl with Translucency.

In V-Ray 3.x there is one more addition on that subject and this is VrayScatterVolume material.
This is a unbiased method which will generate as accurate result as Translucency but it is easier to setup."

Thanks man I will take a look at that!

Easter renders, I like the lighting, need to work on the composition of the room, the skin texture of the girl to break up the large untextured spots on her back, and find a way to render the mirror correctly.
Maybe someone knows the answer to this. If I render the mirror at 100% glossy I get good reflections. If I render the mirror as a blend MTL with some overlayed grunge, I get the same reflections, except that all the girls reflections are removed, so she doesn’t get highlights etc. on her nose where she normally has a bit of specular. Any ideas?

Also any opinions on lighting and composition for either of these two?

I like the second image but maybe with a less bit of exposure (too bright for me) , Great job man !

Thought I would get you over here too

2nd render for me as well. Great work!

I made a quick paintover…hope you don’t mind. Just played with exposure and saturation. ALSO added a bit of Johnny with some rubbish DOF.

Keep up the rad work. she is looking awesome. I am keen to see where you go with her.

ohh and adding the curtains to the background could look pretty cool too.

? You’d prefer she was a lobster?

Extremely tasteful :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

hahah WOW. Sorry… My screen at home must be totally up the s#it.

desaturated my paintover by about 25 and removed just a bit of the redness…THIS is more like I was thinking. Sorry

I am keen to see more she looks great.

Haha. I saw the first one I was like “Geez Duncan, I’m not sure I understand this joke.”

Thanks for the paintover, appreciate it.

Still working on the material definition, trying to pin things down has been fun, shes has a sort of late 80s vibe with the pants and the grungy coat. Everything is still WIP, most of the texture and materials have not been worked out yet, especially the coat, shoes, skin… which is basically everything but getting closer.

Nice design, I like a lot the glowing tatoo! :+1:

Your model looks very nice there are a few crits that I saw in the image. The area near the armpit looks like it is faceted/flat I am not sure why. Also in that area where the tattoo meets with the jacket/shirt it looks like your polypainting bled over onto the jacket while you were painting the tattoo. I am not sure if thats what happened because they would need to be in the same subtool to paint on both but it looks like that to me anyways. The other area is near the right shoulder. It looks like there is a sculpted depression there for maybe a bra strap to go down but I can’t see any strap there, unless its futuristic too

Thanks man. Its not zbrush errors (polypaint bleeding etc.) these are realtime errors from baking and the low-poly. I am cleaning things up and fixing stuff as I can. Appreciate you pointing stuff out!

Very Nice! I love her sic fi arm thingy!

Love the tatoo design !

Just about there. This is from Marmoset (and viewport shot is maya). Low-poly is pretty much done minus finishing the textures and cleanup.
