Hi there! Again, cool sketches! quote:" this sketch is so awfull but enough efficient for the lowpoly (sorry… )…it’s also good to show bad stuffs no?" I don’t agree: the sketch looks good and most importantly: it serves his purpose: guide you for the lowpoly and initial sculpt! So: thanks for posting and thereby giving us a peak inside your brain! !
!
Looking forward to see the model of this one. Also on your first picture where you merged art in the background, how did you manage that? It looks fantastic
Etcher : you’re definitly too nice with me! thanx man!
What i wanted to say, is the fact that, as i’m art director, if one of my teamate would have given me a sketch like that, i would have probably told him to refine it for the modeler.
When you’re alone it’s always easy to take a decision if your reference is not perfect…But in production it doesn’t work like that…you always have to think about the others department. In a way its not a good sketch at all for production, but good enough for a personal work
After spending 2 years in a very hard production i’m still working as if i had a team to direct… i’ve forgotten that i was alone and free to do whatever i want
Sora Na: thanks for Martin! i can’t wait working on him! but for now i’m working on Mia’s low poly.
Regarding the 1st picture, it’s easy…the left part of the image was composite in After effects with all the 3D passes rendered in XSI. The BG of the right side and background is hand painted with watercolor on paper, scanned and composite with the left part of the image in Photoshop…if you want more details don’t hesitate to ask me!
I really want to take a model I make and paint something in the background in photoshop and I’ve seen a lot of nice backgrounds that were painted in. I don’t have After Effects sadly but that sort of style is really nice
OK! i’m still working on the preproduction of my project “Travel to Mama”
Yesterday was for drawing, today was for modeling!
I’ve just finished Mia’s low poly! i’m happy, because i was afraid of her hairs. But finally they look like i wanted! it’s going to be very pleasant to work on her in the next few days!
Hope u will like her

it’s so good to sculpt after 2 weeks of abstinence!
Here’s the first steps of Mia’s sculpt…hairs, face…still in progress…
She’s the first female that i sculpt so i lurn a lot… i’ve spent a lot of time on her face trying to not lose her softness…
You can see that i have an intersting work to do on Mia’s breast (2nd picture right-top this is one of her characteristics…
the hardest part of this sculpt is her head and hairs…they’ll be finished tomorrow…i hope that her clothes will be as easy to sculpt as the others characters…the glasses will be done in XSI…it will be easier
comments are welcome!!!

quote: “What i wanted to say, is the fact that, as i’m art director, if one of my teamate would have given me a sketch like that, i would have probably told him to refine it for the modeler. When you’re alone it’s always easy to take a decision if your reference is not perfect…But in production it doesn’t work like that…you always have to think about the others department. Lookin’ forward to the update! !
Great updates! I missed a few.
Two weeks of abstinence? LOL
Don´t worry, you´re working so fast! That´s stunning!
Mia looks gorgeous.
And you did great job on the hair and the sunglasses! Can´t wait to see her dress and I love those dimples (especialle the left one )- looks really cute!
i was so bored by the movie at the TV that i’ve decided to continue MIA.
Now, the shirt and the breast are over. I can’t wait to pose all the characters to refine them!!
it’s hard to stay patient.

Wow really cool characters! Great start on Mia too
Hello
Mia is finished! next stop Martin!!
Sorry! i know that the fact that my characters haven’t their final poses is not really interesting but i’m sure that the final scene with all the characters together will be great!!!
Hope you’ll be there in 5 or 6 weeks when all the characters will be finished

Hard to crit anything about your work.
Mainly because its a wanted well thought thru style and general artdirection your having.
By the way did you study at supinfocom by any chance?
Had a look thru the student works lately and there was some very nice
watercolour texturing in one final project. couldve been yours
thanks for the comments Disco stu!
DO you mean that you don’t want to make any criticizes because it’s a work too personal ?
you don’t want to cast me down?
No i didn’t study at supinfocom but in Emile cohl (an illustration and animation school in Lyon). We can find gorgeous shorts with watercolor textures! the main problem is the fact that nobody (except the japanese) try to use this technique in an animated feature film! That’s my purpose!
Hi Cédric. Again, fast updates! ! Great sculpting on Mia - very feminine- but not overdone
! Might wanna check her waist: looks a bit angular/blocky when viewed from 3/4 front. Agree with you on the watercolour / animation thing. It’s so great to watch you experiment on that look (Antoine in the forest, and this project). Aren’t you glad we have these tools at our disposal: if you can dream it, you can build it! See ya!
!
you’re right Etcher, i’m gonna fix that when i’ll do her pose. Thanks!
I meant i dont want to criticize because what you do is what you want to do sounds weird. I mean one could crit the folds and say theyre unrealistic
but its what you want as a look as a artdirection and i like that.

This is the supinfocom clip that reminded me of your technique.
The character isnt good and i dont speak more french than qui baguette and boulabaise  so i dont understand the story.
But the camera mapped and matte painted houses really look great.
http://www.supinfocom.fr/accueil.html heres the site i guess you know it.
Some really inspiering clips.
don’t worry Disco stu! i was kidding!
I like your comments because it’s not so easy to fit to this kind of sketches!
I’m glad that you appreciate my efforts
I know supinfocom but i didn’t know this short… The work on the BGs is awesome! i’m not crazy about the character though…
As i had problems with XSI this morning, i couldn’t work on Martin’s low poly…
So, in order to be efficient i’ve decided to prepare LINE’s model sheet.
I have only one character left for the drawing part : GRAND MA.
LINE is as gorgeous as MIA but she’s more physical and in many ways, looks like her father in her attitude.
[](javascript:zb_insimg(‘136013’,‘WIP_LINE01.jpg’,1,0))
your gonna watercolour all the characters?
J’adore ton style et ton coup de crayon ! keep it up !
