Yona's Little Adventures...

here’s the first pass of ZB on Emrold. It’s almost finished but i still have a lot of work to do on the leather jacket such as seams, material bumps…
as the textures will be hand painted i don’t want to add to many realistic details such as scratches on the metal…any way i’ll be able to add them later if needed…
too many details kill the composition!
I’ll have to find the good balance between him and the little boy!

see you soon!

Great work! :+1:

Bonjour crazy french mister
Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh… I missed the last updates! What a shame!
Always a pleasure to see your work! Cest le pied! :) So youre planning to get these guys printed? Thats cool. (Did you get the little Nightmaker print in the meanwhile ??) I cant wait to see it!

Cool Update!

Nattawat_OBBI : thank you!
Moni : thank you dear crazy german lady! Unfortunately, i’m not sure that htere will be a 3D print of my night maker. They need me to change to many things and i don’t have time for that right now. Working on Little H is different because it’s also a professional project. So if i can find time in the next few months, i’ll try to make the retakes. If not, well… sorry for that…
O/MI : i’m glad you like him! im’ a big fan of your commander!

now i’m sad :frowning: hope you will find time to change the things which need to be changed on the nightmaker, it would be so cool to see him printed, but if you got no time then it’s okey because we all know how the nightmaker would look if he would be printed --> AWESOME! didn’t check your latest updates, but as i see your working hard to get new things done and i’ve got to say emrold is superb.

Thanks Al!
today, i’ve decided to work on the documentary part of the project “Litlle H”
Architecture of New York during the 1910’s. BGs will be very important too!
I’ll share some sketches with you guys if you are interested
I’ve also worked on Emrold color references in order to prepare the texturing, lighting and rendering hope you’ll like him even if it’s just a quick sketch!

Very nice colors! Everything is so well-conceived…
No surprise because (you know what Im going to say now;)) youre the man with the plan.

Hi Yona, this is marvellous! Makes me want to do something.

these colours could look great!

Hey Moni : if i always knew what i was doing i would have found the solution for my problem below! (even if i have an idea…)
Maxinkuk : Thanks man! hope you’ve find a good idea for youe next project!
Al : thank you! and what about your projects sir?

OK, now i need help…because forums are not only for sharing processes but also for asking help!

I’ve never done details such as these below. So i don’t even know how to texture that?!! how do i paint these little stitches, bolts and rivets? do i polypaint them?
Or do i render a bump map pass as reference and bring the texture as a reference in photoshop?
the other option would be to bring all my character in Bodypaint and paint all the volumes in one time?
Well, i need your help…even if i’ve never polypainted or even used Bodypaint, it’s not a problem… i’ll lurn…

Thanks!!

Excellent work ! …and very funny

Emrold is looking mighty fine. Those details are wonderful!

In answer to your question… all of your above methods would work. I’m assuming you want to have a texture map at the end of it. You could start with polypainting, but depending on your mesh resolution it could get messy. Outputting a normal or displacement map to capture the details is a good idea.

My method is normally to do a rough polypaint and then export a map to photoshop for clean up and adding details. To be honest ZBrush texturing is a little weak (sorry pixo but it’s true) so an app like photoshop or bodypaint is going to be more superior to manipulate things how you want them. Looks like you used custom alphas to make your details so you can re-use those to stamp on some colour.

Hope that helps!

Cool model/sculpt. Looking forward to seeing this progress…

Later - Mike

Ao is the way to go!
I use Xnormal to generate these.

You will get a very nice map showing every details placement.

You look like an awesome painter! Success!

You can load a dense mesh in bodypaint without problems and paint directly over it, with layers and brushes like in photoshop, you can apply a normal map to the model and paint while you see the details.

I highly recomend you bodypaint.

You can also do what @Disco Stu said, get a map where you see all the details and put it in multiply over your psd file so you know where the zbush deails are. Leave it at the end over 40% and there you go!.

Ps. If you decide to bodypaint it just send me a PM and ill give you the 10 rules for starting really smoothly without going on your nerves. Its really easy by the way.

Yeah best is ao map in bodypaint as a psd in multiply mode only stupid thing
is that theres no symmetry if the uvs arent symmetrical or is it somewhere
in there Gentleman?

Well, the software doesnt have symmetry as a tool, but you will have it if your uvs are symetrical and you will see it while painting, so if you just unwrap the half youll have symmetry. I forgot to say that bodypaint is only an option if you have a nice unwrap over your model. Dont load a crazy zbrush UV on bodypaint. Technically you can also do it painting in projection mode all the time, but it will be really painful.

So you will need good Uv’s if you want to go to bodypaint (and let me recomend you Silo for Uv’s, its ridicoulsly easy and powerful).

Thanks my friends for all these good tips!
there’s a long time that i want to try bodypaint! so i think that it’s gonna be the solution i’ll take!

The Emrold sculpt came out beautiful!! Too bad I can’t help you on the texture/polypaint stuff -I didn’t try that out yet! So I guess I’ll have to folow how you tackle it (if you don’t mind)- You already got some great advice from Disco Stu and Gentleman. .
