Yet Another Bleedin' Alex Ross Superman

Well, here’s another Alex Ross inspired superman. I’ve been working on this on and off for a couple weeks now. I had no idea Kris was doing one too! Really…

I started with a level 1 version of Zach Petroc’s SuperAverageMan, as his proportions are very nice. I wanted to learn some anatomy, so I sculpted the base muscles in LW modeler. I then took it into Z-Brush and added more details and refined the head and face.

He still needs more sculpting, a cape and painting, but he’s off to a good start. I took the lower angle image and threw on an angled brush filter in PS to see what he’d come out like. Looks a bit like painting, so I’m adding this image as it came out cool.

I’ll post more as he comes closer to completion. 121 welcome…

Great work, Dickie. I like the crayon effect too! :+1:

He reminds me of Bruce Campbell in first pic , its very good job:)

MarcusCivis: Glad you like the effect. I did it just for a goof in Photoshop and I liked the look. Kinda reminds me of Ross’s lighting…

Bwwd: He does look like Bruce a little bit. He looks like Steve Martin too…

Thanks for taking the time to comment. After Kris’s Superman post, mine is a bit anti-climactic… BUT, since I worked so hard on him, I wasn’t going to chuck him in the bin.

Hey Dickie!

I think it looks GREAT! I love to see different artists working on the same subject because we can always learn with each other. I’ll keep your images as reference too!

Keep it up man. I want to see it finished and posed. Very cool :+1:

-Kris

Kris: Thanks for your comments. Bro! I have the body mostly finished. I’m still playing about with the head a bit. I’m still having a ball with this model so I’ll post when i get more finished.

As I mentioned in your thread, I use the images you post in this forum as inspiration and basically learning aids. I’ve always loved and respected your work and I learn so much from you. Thanks again for taking the time to comment, as I DO really appreciate them…

Dickie

Those muscles and the flesh looks great! Nice skin and renders too. In the first picture it seems to me the fold/wrinkle between the two eyebrows is going a bit far up his forehead…
Looked up Alex Ross; awesome drawings! You will do him justice. :+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:

Plakkie: Yes, The forhead needed some work This latest is getting better…Thanks for your input…

Here is a quick update. I think he’s getting closer to the feel I want. More to come later…

Oh yes its exactly like on Ross paintings , and keep him young. Now its Reeve.

Really nice sculpture!! I liked a lot:) keep on going :+1:

very nice, very good modelling
like a yonger version of Antropus’s on 1:+1:

wow i really like it keep up the good work

Nice work so far Dickie.

That wouldn’t work anyway. Superman can fly.

I like the latest face. It has the right shape and feel to it.

Dickie what’s come over you - it’s not a satirical character!?

Great work as always - look forward to see him cross the finishing line.

:+1: :+1: :+1:

Forehead looks great now! Keep on Brushing!

A quickie update. I rendered the latest model and painted over in PS to get a better idea of what I need to change in the model. As you can see, the hairline at the temples needs fixing. Once that is tweaked, I’ll proceed to details and painting. The suit he has on is just an ovelay in PS and a quickie lo-res logo I grabbed off the net.

I’m learning a lot form this model. I had to go back to a model I made a few weeks ago, as I was drifting away from the design by overworking it. A bad flaw I have…

Anyway, I hope you all like it and I always welcome suggestions and comments…

Beautiful work…
:+1:

Gratzi, Bernardo. I am honored. I’m a fan of your work, so I appreciate your kind words. Octopus is still one of my favorite CG illustrations…

Dickie

Very recognizable style…looks like airbrush and or oil paint. The final should be good!
