xtrm3d goes zbrush

hello fellow cg artist ,
just downloaded the demo and tried the zspher and sculpt function…
as a lightwave artist have to admit that they are the only function that make me hot about z-brush …
have to say that it is awessome to see the possibility…

beside the fact that i could not save my object in the demo…
i still have some question and would be higly thankfull for any help ,

1 : how cann i delet a zspher ? i can add and edit them but did not found the delet function :frowning:

2 : in sculpt mode… i can move , rotate , zadd, zsub … but did not found a brush smooth …( i mean something like zadd but with a smooth function )

3 : a question about normal displacement …
ok for now i am using the demo… but i hope to get some money togehtehr later in the begining of next year to be able to buy this cool software … and thus i hope later to be able to use normal displacement to detail my lightawe object …
do the normal map deform corectely ? with bone and morphe target ?

thx in advance for any advice you can give me

Hi xtrm3d and enjoy Zbrush

1- ALT + Click delete a zphere.

2- I’m not sure to understand right, but in the tool submenu, go to Deformation settings, and then you can modify the “smooth” parameters from value 0 to 100 many times

3- I don’t know neither due to the fact i’m also using the tryout, but in the same parameters above : TOOL / DEFORMATION, you’ll find an INFLAT parameter, giving you an idea of a displacement map under zbrush… but it’s not really answering your question.

keep going the great work.

Re: 2.

No ‘smoothing’ brush in this version. I think that ZSub or ZAdd at low intensity is the current work-around, but that only works to push down or bring up, not both simultaneously. The other option is to mask the area to be smoothed, invert the mask, and then try small amounts of Deformation:Smooth.

The next version DOES have a smoothing tool, according to the beta users.

thanx a lot for the reply…
the idea witht he mask and the smooth sound not so bad

to strike :

There is a smooth-brush: go to custom filter III and V (Toolbox, last row, right). If my memory does not fail me, you will find an explanation (for entering the right digits)in those quicklinks.

Regarding question 1, you must be in Edit Draw mode in order for Alt+Click to delete a ZSphere. Read the ZSpheres page of the Quick Reference Guide for more information about ZSphere functions. You’ll find it in the QuickLinks for 1.55b.

  1. The smooth brush will be available in the next version. zerebrush: The Custom Filters do not work while modeling, as you cannot change to another tool without snapsthotting the one that you are editing.

  2. Normal mapping and displacement mapping are also being implemented with the next version. As a result, nobody is going to be able to answer your question just yet. What I can say is that the quality of your results in your animation package will depend upon the capabilities of that package. ZBrush will give you excellent maps to work with.

If you are a texture artist, be sure to check out the TextureMaster ZScript. I think you’ll find that ZBrush has more to offer than just ZSpheres and sculpting.

aurick: you’re right (as always  !!!), I just did not see that xtrm3d wanted to smooth jaggies while still in edit mode.
