Hello! I a m pretty new to zbrush,only learned some basic modeling and reached a point,when i need to use an alphas.
Currently i need to wrap an alpha(ornament) around the object.
I tried to use IMM and VDM,but on my model, i need alpha to precisely wrap around it by x or y axis.
Maybe there is easier way to do it?In 3d max maybe?
If you’re new to Zbrush then check out Michael Pavlovich’s Intro to Zbrush. An easy to search playlist covering all the basics.
Also Pixologic’s ZClassroom covers all the features but also has project based examples so you can see how it’s used to create various sculpts.
Here’s one way.
- Alpha:To Mesh will dump your alpha to a mesh on a plane. Use the Knife Curve brush to slice the plane part off and leave a solid mesh of your alpha behind.
- With the new alpha mesh Deformation:Unify to center it to the world and resize to a nice size for Zbrush brushes.
- Then with the alpha mesh facing the camera, Brush:Create:Insert Mesh brush (new)
- Activate radial symmetry around Y (according to your image) Transform:Activate Symmetry, Y, R and set radial count
- Draw the new Insert Mesh onto the cylinder. You’ll get radial count copies around the cylinder.
- You may want to play with Z intensity for height, Brush:Depth for how much it embeds into the surface and Brush:Modifiers:Projection Strength (slider) for how much it bends according to the underlying surface. Project strength 0 will mean it draws out flat like the plane it was created on. Try 50 for example.
You could also try Array Mesh (see Pavlovich or ZClassroom).
Have fun.

Maybe i incorrectly described my problem.
I made a 3d model in 3ds max and exported to Zbrush,after i wanted to add ornament to my model,but i just dont understand which moves i need to do,so i have ornament on it…
Thank you!exactly what i need!=)
