Wrap Mode Confusion

Loving this new zbrush but hit a bit of a snag. I’m working my way step by step through the tutorials in the online help and I got to Wrap Mode Tutorial …

First off… Transform:Wrap doesn’t exist as far as I can tell…nearest thing I can find is Brush:Wrap which describes itself as the same thing pretty much…is it?
Secondly, if it is, I’m having the devil of a time getting it to work like the tutorial implies it should. (See picture) I did the new file:Plane, SDiv5, with lazy mouse on, did the steps just like it said in the first part of the tutorial, but it’s only horizontally tiling and the repeat strokes to either side are going pixelated.

Am I missing a setting? is this not the correct tool ? If so where is the correct tool? Confused

Indeed…I find the ‘WrapMode’ under the Brush palette (must have been an
earlier tutorial from the 2.5 days). I have a similar problem to yours in that I’ve
‘MakePolymesh 3d’-d a plane3d, then subdivided (since using the layer brush
on such a low level of polys creates a blobby mess) 5 times to get 263K polys.
Then using the Layer brush with Wrapmode to 4 (and saving the
Morph target once I’ve reached my 5th sub-d level) I get the following:

My wrapping is vertical, but as you can tell it’s a bit buggered.

I’ll keep messing with it, but if anybody else has suggestions on a fix, please
post 'em!

welp after a bit of futzin I was able to get something out of it.
I re-initialized Zbrush, then made some edits to brush size, falloff,
and only did 4 sub-divisions (probably more of a brush/falloff issue
than sub-d, tho). Here’s a screenie with a cobblestone looking plane:

you can see the settings I used in the screenshot. Also, I used the flatten
brush over the layer brush and it’s kinda nice to fade the effect between
the two with the morph slider (under Morph Target sub-panel from Tool panel).

good luck!

Followed your last steps and it worked great . Thanks .

@rookie, in case u weren’t aware the intensity fader on the layers pallette can help with fading/adjusting changes if they’re made on a separate layer… but then again I guess the morph method is more versatile (esp used with layers and adjusting their visibility before storing morph target)

thanks for the tip, rhumba…I haven’t messed with layers yet, but I’ll keep
that in mind when I do.

What I’m wondering now is how I’ll be able to use the ‘WrapMode’ plane either
as a texture or an actual geometry (in lowpoly form), since once it’s subdivided
and sculpted it no longer retains ‘square’ edges (even though they repeat
perfectly)…

Will try that today. Thanks so much, tell ya this one truly stumped me.

One thing I’ve found is that it works perfectly with the DOTS stroke, but not with the FREEHAND stroke.
