World Space Displacement

I believe there used to be a way to produce World Space displacement maps prior to R3 - is there a way to get these type of Displacement maps in R3?

It might be helpful if I detail what I am trying to do.

I have never gotten the displacement mapping to work consistently from ZBrush to 3ds Max using any method (Mental Ray, 3d Displacement or VRayDisplacementMap). Displacements work great inside of Max, but I have never gotten a ZBrush generated map to work with a workflow that worked for each model … so with the test of Wayne Robson’s Vector Displacement Shader working perfectly with .EXR displacement map generated for worldspace from Mudbox, I am trying to find a way to generate similar maps from ZBrush - so far with no luck.

Using his test files I rendered a head with an .EXR file as displacement in under 1 second - and it looked perfect - now that is freaking amazing.

Anyone have any ideas on this?
