Can anyone help me with some rather general questions about spotlight?
i’m using some very hi res photos to texture the skin on a model.I’ve been using HD geometry to ‘capture’ the detail which is working out beautifully when baked out to the texture map.
But i have a few basic workflow issues.
1- my photos are very large, bit bigger than 5000x7000,ZB handles these fine…but from what i can see/understand, spotlight works in ‘screen space’ so to speak…i.e the resolution of the actual ‘projected/painted’ image is limited by the size of the canvas/workspace…(and polycount of mesh of course)
So if i have all of my photo visible in the canvas and lined up with my model then start painting…the resulting texture will not be as detailed as one that i’ve made by first scaling the photo in spotlight to focus on one detail(e.g. around the eye) and lining the model up.
This is not too bad but the problem is that when i want to move on to another part of the face…i have to move my model, zoom in on the area…and move the photo in spotlight, scale, etc…then i get to paint.Rinse and repeat for the whole face from one angle(eg.front)
Is there anyway of fixing the pic in spotlight to the position of the model,so that when i move the model the pic moves with it?..
2- The saturation/hue and intensity tools are of most use to me when i have partially textured a model with one image(front) and you try to complete the texture with another image(eg.Left/45) that has slightly different lighting…adjust the lighting with the tools…but in order to check you have a match on the area, you have to keep dialing the opacity of the 2nd image up/down to compare…would be very handy if you could have a split view bit like you get for comparing renders in some apps.
i.e. a line you can drag across the canvas…one side of the line is your model(with any tex/polypaint) and the other side is your spotlight image you are tweaking.
Of course it could be that i’m trying to use the wrong tools for the job…any advice on texturing a face with hi res pics using ZB to get a final map with all that fine detail would be great.
Cheers and sorry for the long post
