Working with layers?

Hello!

I’ve been trying to work with layers. What I want to do is to assign different polymesh models into different layers and edit them together as far as possible. For example, sculpt a hand with a ring, each one would be a different polymesh on a different layer, but when editing one of them, I wanna be able to move the “global perspective” so when I move the hand, the ring will move too.
When I create a layer and place a polymesh on it, create another layer and another model into it, I can’t get into edit mode on the first layer, it seems it becomes plane…

Is it possible to keep on edit mode on one layer while editing another layer?.
Sorry if there’s already a thread about this, but I couldn’t find one… Is there a good tutorial about this?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks!

You’re looking in the wrong place. You need to use SubTools rather than layers. In your example, the hand would be one SubTool and the ring would be another. http://www.pixologic.com/docs/index.php/Subtools

It sounds as though you are trying to using document layers. That won’t work.

Are you using ZBrush 3.1? If you are, then you can use SubTools to sculpt different parts of a model. You can find out about them here:

http://www.zbrush.info/docs/index.php/Subtools

In order to pose SubTools you’ll need to use Transpose Master here:

If you are using ZBrush 2 then you’ll have to wait for the Mac update.

Yes! I was looking in the wrong place… Working on 3.1 and got it now… SubTools rules!

Thanks a lot for the help, really appreciated!
