Working on my modelling skills (body added)

On the hunter thread I said I was thinking the same as Ed, but I misunderstood what Ed was thinking I guess. I assumed that MJ was one of the “big boys” pretending to be a newbie that was what I meant by my post. As I said then, it didn’t matter who the person was, it was awesome modeling.

I hope this gets all worked out with mininum fall out.

Thankyou for replying MJ…as I said I have nothing against you at all…

However, take a look at these pics…and rightly or wrongly you may understand how I reached my conclusion…If I am wrong I apologise…

In fact from memory this model or variations of it were originally A model of Vikki’s I altered rather dramatically.

Your skull

My skull smoothed and slightly inflated…and accidentally squashed a little…can post an unsquashed one…

So now you can understand my confusion MJ.

Ed_The_Atom, I understand your concern however, i too made the mistake with the fat guy on the right, of not rotating my model so that the poles were north and south. To compensate this I figured I would pull a neck down and try to hide the pole in a less detailed area such as the neck. You may notice I corrected this in the second model ( the head on the left)

my ears are just standard ears modelled while looking at grey’s anatomy book so I don’t see your point there. I agree they look similar.

I understand your point with the lip, you have a very convincing point there. So much in fact that even I thought “holy cow”

However im not sure the reason for your dip in the lip, however mine is from a simple error of over smoothing in the bottom lip region. I had tried to add cracks to the bottom lip, it didnt turn out the best and I didn’t have many undos configured. However if you check the full body of the fatter guy, you will see I corrected this as well as fattened him up.

Another point to note. Look at all of my bodies, especially the fat guys. The modelling style is the exact same as the heads, both consistent with the style.

Your point about the skull, I made my skull out of ‘zspheres’ Originally I intended on making holes in the skulls, to look damaged. However using the new feature of sinking a zsphere into another to cut back didnt have the desired effect, so instead of deleting the spheres and in course having to ruin the other pathways they were linked to, I simply resized them down and smoothed them off later with the blur brush once my image was baked.

If you look at your skull. You seem to have one hole in the forehead region. If you look at my skull, I have a tiny cluster of spheres, not one hole.

I apologise if this justification is not good enough for you. And believe me I understand completely. If I thought someone was ripping off my work i’d be pissed and want to get to the bottom of it as well. You are not doing anything wrong or out of line in my eyes. And I do really appreciate your sincerity.

I admit, we have a very similar style. That is by no mistake. I admire your sketchily realistic style, and I guess I was aiming at that technical side of things, however a little more refined.

However Aurick has got my skull ztool, he said he would get yours, then he’ll analyze the two as a third persons view.

Whatever his decision is, i’ll respect it, yours and the others here, as I said earlier. It’s more your stomping ground than mine as I havn’t been here all that long, and I shall move on somewhere else with respect. I know if I was in your shoes I’d be doing the same thing. I admire your dedication.

Regards,

Michael.

Thanks MJ…

Well I can make the skull hole a cluster by inflating the skull and smoothing back…anyway neither here nor there.

If all you say is true…well I take my hat off to you…Cos if you look at all areas of the skull you have made a remarkable copy…now I can copy anything to an extremely high level…you are the second I have met then who can go higher.

Also I have to agree on a point you made…there certainly are similarities in our modelling styles…even down to bodies… though you haven’t seen any of my body models…but I will say yours are like looking at mine. Are you sure you are not me? Or, has my mind gone completely?

Anyway MJ what the hell eh?..just keep pumping out the good stuff.

As to my stomping ground…hardly I frequent the place on occasion…more though in times of idiocy than not.

Ok so at least it’s settled for now. We’ll just see what aurick has to say and we’ll go from there.

As for the similar styles, have you ever done much sketching? I’ve been a sketch artist most of my life. Realism and portraiture is my thing. Any simularities there?

Michael
And I can’t spell worth a **** , then again art doesn’t require spelling.

hi

I’ve done an incredible amount of head studies…body angles, realism, caricatures, cartoons.I could basically draw like I do now from the age of 20…I sat down one day then to see if I could draw to the standard of the masters, learnt what art is along the way…although from an infant I found it easy.

I never sketch never found the need I just draw the image or paint it.
Painting…again no plan…I just grab a brush loaded with paint and swipe at the canvas…stand back look at it…gives me the feeling for the piece…and go on to draw what ever that feeling dictates in any style, or with any technique…it’s fun that way.

I was an avid realist for many years…but now am more in favour of post impressionism…more of a challenge.

i started Drawing When i Was Free Years old.
