Working on my modelling skills (body added)

Thanks for the feedback guys!

Mik; I wasn’t putting the image down, I was merely making a reference to the fact that they were not textured, did not have a background scene and were very much unpolished. . I’m sorry for any discomfort.

About the shoulders. When I was modeling them, they had a reason to be so far forward. That reason seems to escape me now though

And ZBrush is really my first effort in any 3D application. I’ve dabbled with others before, but nothing serious.

MJ

No discomfort caused MJ, but you have to admit, even though they were only(!!) head models you’ve presented them very well which adds volumes to the quality of the sculpting.
Cheers,
Mik

Good Modeling!! How do you joint a head to the body?

 I must say, these look quite nice! The presentation is perfect. I love that look when rendered. First 3D try huh? Well, I expect we’ll be seeing great things to come. Great work, and I can’t wait to see them textured!

StoneCutter, where were you with that advice when I was trying to put a body on my big dumb Hellhound head? Thanks for the tip!

hah! fatso looks like my own future if i wont start fighting the taking shape going on really soon  belly is almost there and i would come with hanging shoulders and beert*ts like that, too, i’m afraid.

despite that lil personal setback i agree with everyone else: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: MJ!

You obviously have an amazing natural talent for this. 1.5.1 has only been out for about a week, and you have definitely mastered the zifs (my new name for zspheres, since I have trouble typing the z and the s next to each other)

I have been beta testing for over a month and a half now, and I’m only just now getting a good handle on refining my models. You have done so much in a short time. Very impressive.

MJ,

:sunglasses: :+1:

When Modeling the heads, do you start off with a low polycount? Also, do you rotate it so the poles are up and down, left to right, or back to front? I did a crash course with ZBrush 1.23 demo for the 3d-passion contest, and last night all knowledge suddenly fled and it hit me: I have no idea what I’m doing. Any tips you have would be extremely helpful. Thanks!

Thanks everyone for your comments. I just hope my work reflects the positive feedback and support you guys give.

Denture Cream. I always start with a low poly Sphere, and add polygons where I need them.

Usually I rotate the Sphere at the start so that the poles are north and south. Other wise it makes doing a nose, lips or facial features a lot harder. A good tip to try, is when you first create your sphere on the canvas, apply the checkered texture (Comes with the program) to it, that way you can very easily see where your poles are and where they need to be. When you get more comfortable with this, you won’t need to apply that checkered texture at the start anymore.

Also when modeling a head, make sure you frequenly rotate the model to the side, front, and 3/4 views. A common mistake is to completely model the front of the head, only to rotate the model to the side and find that it looks completely out of shape.

MJ

Just playing around !!! I really want to see what you come up with when you decide to get serious !!
hanx for the unskinned version. It helps to see how someone else uses the zspheres.

Great modeling

Yep Grub you are right…they are altered models of mine.

Listen people I have no objection to people using the models I post on this board, do anything you like to them. I don’t wish to be referenced, but when I read the rubbish associated with these two it makes me wonder why I give them away.

Clear as a bell, Ed! And courtesy if nothing else demands that credit be given where due…This has happened before on this Forum, and does all of us a disservice, the longer it goes on without explanation…

It’s a shame that’s the case though, with those really nice renders and the body was developing well.
But with those almost unmodified heads, I can’t believe it how no one else could spot your trademark style
You should have been given some credit Ed, then every thing would have been fine. Honesty and common courtesy at the least really. It’s the same deal if someone uses poser and claims it to be their own work.
Funny there was a recent thread I caught yesterday, on CGtalk, with someone doing just that, claiming that poser work was their own. That guy made fools of alot the people( some professionals) whom were giving out so much praise. Some first time poster spotted the cheater, and was rightly praised for doing so. It happens all over the place.
Anyhoo hope this is the end of the matter, just be honest folks, work hard do your best, and the rewards you reap will be so much more satisfying.(I sound like Jerry springer  )

Rob

Yes thanks Michael…
It would be nice to see an explanation from MJ…and I agree with Grub it is a shame… MJ appears to have a talent that I’m sure would be well received here should he continue to post in an honest manner. I don’t wish to see him disappear…nor do I demand an apology.

So come on MJ what do you say?

I have to confess I feel more than a little disconcerted over this. I have been helping MJ (who I now suspect is another in disguise). I showed him how to create those renders as well as gave him the tips for creating the veins etc. Why is it so difficult to say “I used this…” or “So and so provided me with this information…” ??? What a shame.

Lonnie, I don’t believe you have anything to be disconcerted about…An attempt to help someone is something to be happy about.
Generosity is NEVER a negative thing…

Thats a big shame, I honestly thought the work was 100% his.

Well, I have no answers here, only to say its kinda sad, yet still beautiful, so to who ever the models belong to and who ever modelled them, excellent and gorgeous modelling with great technique!

Firstly, the work is 100% mine. I’ve sent off a ztool to Aurick so he can authenticate it. I’m still waiting for his reply.

I’m sorry to dissapoint your Ed_The_Atom, however the heads I have modeled are not simple re-works of any of your work.

Aurick mentioned that many people think I stole feet as well. That’s obsurd. It’s quite clear I modelled everything from zspheres. If my thread hadn’t been deleted you could go back and look for yourself at the developmental stages.

The worst part of this is, if I model somthing that’s detailed, or people feel it resembles another persons work I’m immediately discriminated against and called a fraud, plus I have to email the model to Aurick so he can authenticate it as mine and then “give” me the pleasure of posting my work on the forum. That’s not fair. It’s quite clear that no matter what I say I won’t be able to convince anyone, and that really is a shame.

When you follow so many peoples advice, follow so many peoples scripts and tutorials, you can’t help but have some of your models resemble others, because you are using their methods. I apologise if you find yourselves incapable of believing this, however there is no more I can say. This saddens me greatly as I did work very hard, taking in others advice suggestions, and improving myself in my work.

I understand that you may of had many people ripping off others work in the past. The worst part of that crime, isn’t the crime itself. The worst part is that it makes people more skeptical to others and doesn’t give everyone a fair chance.

All of my bodies, hands, feet, heads have been modelled using a variety of anatomy books, most by Gray, looking from specific pictures. I’ve been pretty good with giving people credit where credit is due. Everytime I’ve used advice Mentat7 has given me, I’ve put a special note at the bottom thanking him kindly for his advice and methods, why would I go rip anyone off? Why would I put so much work into doing a body and other small details, yet rip off a head from someone else. That’s just not true.

You asked for an explanation, and that is it. I apologise if this is not satisfactory for many of you, but it is the truth and it is all I can do. If many of you have a problem with me posting my work here, I will not do it. As pretty much all of you were here first, and I respect that this is more your stomping grounds than mine, and I shall find another place to post my work, out of respect.

I don’t want any arguments or trouble, if you don’t want to take my apology, if you don’t want to believe what I say, that’s fine I don’t have a problem with it and I respect your desision, however just let me know nicely, and I will be on my way. Thank you for your time to read this message, it’s appreciated

Regards,

Michael Jacobs

Well I guess Aurik can authenticate it. I believe you however if you aren’t telling the truth remember anything but an admission does nothing but escalate the situation and make it worse. I hope that Aurik is able to prove one way or another, because if he can’t it may be assumed your guilty. I hope I didn’t just offend you or anything Im writing this just in case your lying, I personally think you probably are telling the truth but we can’t be sure

I personally think everyone should be given the benefit of the doubt. After all, no one is truly sure of this accusation. Let’s all just chill out and wait to see what Auric says about this.
If this was a rip-off, why would he so adamantly defend himself. To me, that shows his honesty and his desire to clear his name.
I for one hope it is HIS work…I too, believe it truly is. He has done a remarkable job on his model, and deserves credit for it.

Everyone chill till we know the truth.
