woolly rhino

I really love the new FiberMesh! So here a try I did on a rhino I did before.
Here the original white rhino:

I changed the body of the rhino so that it corresponds with the physique of a woolly rhino: lower back legs and higher shoulders than the white rhino original. And then I started with the FiberMesh. I made several meshes but I had to be careful: the total size of this tool is over 1 gig!!

Here the first try where I really love the way the hair is right behind the rhinos frontleg.

And a second try where I used the brushes. It still needs a lot of work but I really see what I would be able to do with it!

And here a better render with the hairs a bit more equally groomed.

This one isn’t finished jet but, I am really looking forward to the end result: I made an ostrich an using the fiber mesh to make feathers. This is a render with the root of the feathers rendered, and I am still working on the material and skin texture. I am figuring out how to use several materials on one subtool, is there a way, other than using geometry HD, to have nice transitions of two materials?

I would love some comments!

I know I am the odd scientific illustrator here in the sense that I don’t make dark fantasy stuff, but I still want to show you my progress. Here the ostrich with textures applied and I made the feathers of the wings. The feathers on the back and tail still need work, but it is beginning to look like a real ostrich ;).
I am still not happy with the material and details of its beak, but that is something for a following session.
I wonder what you think of my progress so far? This is a standard BPR, if I am finished working on it I will make one render that has background and such in it. This shadow actually isn’t bad, since ostriches normally live in countries with lots of sun…

very nice animal studies. the ostrich already looks convincing  i like him. looking forward to how you finish him.

Looking good so far.

thanks you both! I am still having difficulties with the edges between two materials on the same tool, they look really raged right now, but will figure that out eventually. With transpose master I want to make different poses to this one ostrich to eventually make a herd. My plan is to make the complete large animal pack of Africa the coming months.

hi nowhow, i had good experiences with using the materialblend radius in render–>render properties. try a value larger than 0.

ah! Thanks, I will try that!
