Wood Material?

Ok, this is probably just a stupid ZBrush Newbie…

I quickly modelled this club and then textured it. Getting the colormap wasn’t so difficult, but now I want to do a bumpmap to get a wooden structure.
I know I can take a material with a colorbump channel and then “paint” the structure and transform the texture to a alphamap to use in C4D.

Just…

How (with what Alpha for a brush) could I pain this? any hints?

Hi Philipp
You have two ways:
1.-Projection Master: the model have to be in edit mode
2.-Snashot: now is 2D image and can paint using zbrush with/without ZAdd.
I hope this is your question
Thanks
Andreseloy

not quite…
I used Projection Master to texture it.
I just don’t know how to get the wooden structure on it I could export and then use as bump map.

So, what I’m looking for is… a trick, a technique to paint wood in ZBrush

find a pic on google.com or something of Bark. And then import that .bmp into z2 as a texture. Then select make alpha. Play with your brush strokes…ie drag rectangle stroke in particular…Use the zadd and sub to cut some depth into it…or if you are familiar yet with displacement techniques shown in the demo scripts that come with z2 use that also…also in the dropdown alpha menu top left of your screen…play with the RF slider…I would set it around 3-7 when painting those nooks and crannies of the bark in…and it will help to blend it all together…hopefully some of this will be useful for ya…if not…sorry, I tried :open_mouth:

here is a quick script I just made for ya that might help…a textured club of sorts…about a five minute quicky…

texturedClub1.TXT

Philipp i am a newbie - however with Z2 their is a zscript included in the help files- DecoBrush (something)
It shows three ways to paint or texture (using textures and alphas)a model but I think you have to re-save your ztool model as an Polymesh3d ztool to do it

Folks, you’re just great!

I’ll give your tips a try tomorrow, now its time for bed here :o

see my above post…sorry…I edited it and added a zscript for ya…

WAY COOL ZSCRIPT Ron  I am a newbie and this one really helps me

Men’s Club for Clubs:

(These clubs have knocked a head or two in the past.)

I just had to take Ron’s Club and texture it a bit. This is just Ron’s relatively low-poly club with a Projection Master texture and a material with some cavity shading and some color bump. No deformations or anything fancy. The red club shows the base mesh. I used the wood grain texture at RGB:100 in PM to texture the club.

heyas Jay, you did wonders with my simple club…yer version is alot better for sure :+1: :+1: :+1:

Thanks Ron. There’s 101 ways to skin a catfish (or a club), as I’m sure you know.
