u shouldnt even b stared for this work coz its beyond.i think its ur best work yet.

thnx 4 being an inspiration.
best of luk. :+1:

Hey Pierre.
Very nice work.
I very much like the feeling you’ve managed to capture.
A humble suggestion though.
The back seems to be too defined, especially in the middle.
The fabric seems to be stuck to him.
And the hamstring anatomy is off.
Maybe simplify the form so that it reads better.
Anyhow, I quickly did this in photoshop.
I mean quickly, just to illustrate what I’m talking about.
I know it’s not a great intergration and by no means is it a suggestion on approach. Just what I see.

Either way it’s great work.

Welcome to spandex

Hmm… spandex… stretch fabric.
When muscles bunch together as is the case here, with trapezius and sacrospinalis on the back of this character.
There’s no way that spandex would follow into the deep recesses.
It would stretch over the highest points… thus the middle would not be as defined.
The fabric would be stretched over the valley.
Once again, it’s only my humble opinion.
Cheers

very sticky spandex or spandex glued on.

anyway, lighten up

hi guys! Thanks so much for the quick feedback! All your comments are always very appreciated and it’s a big help to have many eyes on it. Thanks again

Juanito69: Thanks buddy for the crits on msn;) fight with ryu hehe wouldn’t that be cool!

ashwin baluja: Thanks for mentionning this, I think it can be with or without the X actually. I’m not sure of the story behind it, but in a lot of representations of the yellow/tan costume, there is no X. maybe when he’s off duty? hehe not sure

voodoomonkey: hey! Thanks a lot for taking the time to do this, I appreciate it. I will take a look at all the areas you have mentionned, thanks again.

Hey Pierre.
Man you’re welcome.
I know how it is.
When you’re right in the middle of it and looking at the same thing.
Sometimes certain things just don’t jump out at you.
That’s what I like about this forum.
Besides all the, “hey that’s awesome”, comments.
It’s nice to hear peoples opinions.
Not that it should influence you in anyway.
After all it’s your piece and you are entitled to do whatever you wish with it.
But it’s nice to hear others thoughts.
So if I have, in anyway, managed to helped you.
Believe me it was my pleasure.
It’s a killer piece and you should be proud.
Any ways, I’m sure you would have come to that conclusion by yourself in time.
Besides that what we’re here for.

Bimm, as a feather baby !

Bimm, I think you missread the bleeding obvious.

Voodoo Monkey as most of the users on this forum are quite just in expressing their opinions and re-explaining them for others.

“There’s no way that spandex would follow into the deep recesses.”

In no way do I see this or any of his post as being arrogant or in need of an attitude adjustment.

I think if anyone needs an attitude adjustment it you.
No offense Pal but mumbling “lighten up” to someone who has chosen to take the time to offer constructive feedback was quite out of line.

This forum is for Artists not argumentative politicians.
I think the pont is out.

Yeah I would go with Voodoo on the spine and back muscle adjustment.

Nice work Pierre. As always.

Sparx.

Hi Subspark.
Funny that some lighthearted comment like ‘welcome to spandex’ should lead to such drama.

You would think you have never read a comic book or seen a superhero before. Their costumes are designed, or at least drawn, to be very very sticky, showing parts of a body that would naturally not show. It even creeps up into their b-cracks. Yes, this is known as Superhero spandex.

My comment to voodoomonkey, lighten up, was meant to not take to seriously what I said. (sorry I left out the smilies). I am really surprised that you would take such offense to what I said [Subspark]. The same advise to you, lighten up a little  (this time I included a nice smilie) What I mean is don’t take offense to or take to seriously everything you read. Some things aren’t meant to be.

Of course voodoo monkey is right about how some parts of the back anatomy shouldn’t show, if we were talking real physics here. But I personally don’t think so. Keep in mind that we are talking about a superhero, He is not real and doesn’t need to stick to natural laws, next thing you know we are starting a discussion about how there is no possible way that 60 cm long claws could come out of his forearm.
If I offended anyone I am sorry, that was not intended. I meant it truly lightheartedly.

But, Let this not lead to a stupid discussion of the natural workings of spandex. This is BlackNulls post, and he did an excellent job. Lets stick to that. (no pun).

awesome wolverine! that is one well-crafted model. :+1:

I understand artistic license etc, but this model loses credibility as a ‘few pounds more’ because anyone with that many more pounds cannot have chiseled abs. The only way to have a six pack is high conditioning and very low bodyfat. The first place to lose visible muscularity would be the gut, especially since you are modeling him as an ‘apple’ type.

Trust me, as a man who has been down to .08 percent bodyfat and as high as .45 percent, the abs are the first to go–followed by the rest of the torso. The musculature on the appendages is plausible–and he could be morbidly obese and stille have really cut calves in my experience…

The good news is all you would need to do is get drunk and use a big smooth brush…

And Frank Miller flirted with the same problem in “Return of the Dark Knight”, so you’re in good company.

*Edit: Just saw your latest WIP post in this thread, much more reasonable proportions per conditioning. It falls just a little outside the realm of reality for that level of additional bodyfat–but right smack in the middle of superhero territory. The initial model was just too exaggerated, but this one treads the edge of willingnes to suspend disbelief pretty nicely. I would soften the abs just a touch more…and slightly more pendulous pecs would be a gas. (Wolvie with a touch of the man-boob–can there BE a more dangerous bar patron? Yes, Lobo with a beer gut…and man-boobs)

hollw all
this goood

Been awhile, this is still a great work =BlackNull=.

For those of you applying real world values to comic characters, I think you take anatomy a little too religiously. Let people create, and try new things. As for the ‘spandex’ issue, it isn’t. The costumes if you are a Marvel fan are all derived from the patent Reed Richards holds. It’s special. Nuff said. I mean when was the last time the material showed a sweat stain? It’s special!

As for too fat to have this kinda musculature - who knows, Logan’s a mutant, what do any of us really know about them aging, they all seem to stay rather youthful over the years in comics!

I like the heavy set idea in that it humanizes the character in many ways all the writing never has.

Most important thing - this is amazing work! Be glad you have a chance to see it and chat with the wonderful individual that shared with you.

Well said, Jason :+1:

I hope the petty bickering hasn’t put the dampers on =BlackNull= sharing his fine work with us again :frowning:

Fantastic work  10 outa 10

Bimm and Jason always make sense…
I had hoped that this forum would not turn into CG talk in terms of the micro crits but, it is leaning that way.
I have only seen a handful of people have this level of control and modeling skills on the web.
It goes without saying any company would be lucky to have a 3d sculpter of this talent.
Maybe it’s because I’m 40 and not 20 that I get a little cranky about this but please give the guy a break, it’s flawless work.
Any crits on a piece of this calibre is purely a matter of taste and not anatomical or material textures debatable.

Ask for an opinion and you better not give it on this forum.
At least that’s what you all are suggesting.
We should just sit around and pat ourselves on the back and say, “Hey great job!, AWESOME!!!, YOU ROCK!, your my hero”.
Come on, what are you all so worried about?
At the end of the day what’s amazing about this forum is that people come here form all walks of life.
Professional to non, young to old.
It’s this amazing cross generational forum of opinions that makes this forum so powerful.
As far as I can see no one was bashing =BlackNull=, in fact the opposite.
I think everyone was thrilled by the work and thus got excited about it’s potential.
The amazing thing to me is you all seem to be missing the important part.
People are communicating.
But more importantly communicating in a enthusiastic, constructive and civilized manner. Unlike some of the other forums that exist.
At the end of the day opinions are all valid from the owners perspective.
That’s the beauty of art, we all see different things.
We all are trying to achieve different things as well.
That doesn’t mean the artist has to change his work.
Opinions are only that, after all you just gave your opinion.
Found these posts to be strange considering this is a forum of opinion.
Peace out.

I read through the whole post, and what I seen was some awesome talent, and some terrible nitpicking, especially considering this is a fantasy character from a fantasy world! but as you say, we all see different things!

BlackNull seemed to take the crit’s it in his stride, but it still may have put him off posting somewhat, although I certainly hope I’m wrong in thinking that!
