I’d like to see you get your sculpt closer to what your drawing looks like.
- broaden the jaw
- make the eyes smaller
- fix the ears
- add that mask crease to the face
I’d like to see you get your sculpt closer to what your drawing looks like.
acmepixel: Thanks for the stars :). When her hands are done, I hope to really have that Hogarth look with some additional detailing.
Etcher: Thanks so much for the kind words. Yes, I do envy you living in Belgium. When I was in my early 20s I came close to moving to Prague. What a gorgeous place. I know what you mean about people taking things for granted such as historically beautiful architecture.
cherub_rock and dustinbrown: I agree, oftentimes my 3D models don't have the loose creative quality of my sketches. This is something I definitely have to work on :+1:.
Wise III still needs A LOT of work, but here's a first quick pass at making the sculpt feel more like the sketch -
OOooh! I like this. Reminds me of some of the art in Giermo Deltoro (sp?) Pan’s Labyrinth, Hell Boy series. Very cool.
Eric first of all congrats on your steady improvement as a
sculptor
I really like this piece .
Just had an idea for an animation that would look great.
Imagine her being a full body character.
First shot close to her face camera zooms out slowly and
shes standing on a balcony of the same house she has on her head.
That house is again placed on the same character
and it loops on and on and on and on.
Thatd be awesome
Prosthesis: Thanks man! If these Wise Ones make you think of Guillermo del Toro’s creatures, then I’m on the right track :). During an interview with Guillermo del Toro a few months back he talked about how when he first began making movies he didn’t have money to hire anyone so he learned all about special effects and computer graphics he needed to incorporate into his movies. He also always keeps a sketchbook handy for when creature or story ideas come to mind.
Disco Stu: I love your idea Disco Stu. That could be an extremely dramatic visual/animation. I’m thinking about animating these guys and if I do I’ll definitely incorporate your idea. Of course I’ll give you credit.
Here’s a Wise Three update.
ZBrush renders -
My biggest goal after this update will be to give Wise Three more personality.
EricArtman, the only thing I can say is that I love these characters and the ideas behind them
I love Disco Stu idea too about the animation
Good job
awesome designs!..love them
I would have really liked to see the last one closer to the drawing though to see how the organic blend of hand to head was tackled…
great stuff though!
Wow, very nice idea. I love the style. I think the hands are awesome! I need to be doing stuff like this!
both houses work great did you already have them built lying around somewhere on your harddrive?
Chokmah: Thanks for the comments. You have some very impressive work in your User Gallery :).
The eyes look great! Did you make them in 3D or just Photoshop them in?
very interesting, i’m generally not that into creature/ fantasy type stuff, but i really enjoy these, especially the 2nd one. keep it up
Beautiful, Beautiful updates! Those latest renders, man -Deep! Your retopos are pieces of art in their own right !
Wow I love the first and second characters!!
Yeah don’t worry about where you get your inspiration from.
You example of hammerhead is great because it really shows what inspiration is. A real hammerhead has eyes on the sides of the “hammer”, where the star wars guy has them in the front. He also has the hammer at the top of a vertical face that curves to a horizontal head. So even though inspired by one thing, it’s still a very different thing.
I’ll have to say the one you worked on the most is my least favorite. I get the hands and building thing, but I just don’t feel it works well. I hope you haven’t focused on that one because of comments made on your first two!!
Great work all around regardless of opinions
dustinbrown: Thanks! The eyes (eyelashes as well now) were rendered directly in Max. Setting the eyes back from the mask helped make them more dramatic.
Cool, I’d love to see it with a sss skin shader. Also reconsider the lighting on the building. White, orange, and yellow are more what one expects to see.

Thanks for the feedback guys :).
