WIP thread - Tom Hankins

The base started as a quick crunch (didn’t know where to start or what to make), later I added more and more detail. After that I’d though I’d give polypainting a try again, very cool to create your own skin!
The sculpting part of this vid stops before I go into detailing, I lost the timelapses… sorry
This guy started out quite toony, but turned out quite realistic, when I get better I’ll go for realistic immediately.
In total this almost took an entire work day to finish, an hour of sketching, 2 hrs of detailing and 2 hrs of painting.
I also modeled a buttoned shirt, to finish this piece.

then for heaven’s sake - give us a textured render already - will ya!?

I will Julian, later tonight, but first a turn around:

Here’s a polypainted version, rendered with SSS, passes composited in PS

I think you did a great job painting the texture. the render is a bit too heavy on the glossy sss side I think. then again, for a caricature character it’ might work. just a matter of taste.

can I ask you a favor? would you be extra nice and fair and add images to one post ( by editing it) when you still have a thumbnail up in the sub row?

it’s just that it happens so often recently that people occupy several thumbnail slots at once which kicks the others out before they even get noticed and we all keep missing great posts.

Looks good in color. I think the skin is a bit too shinny

Hi Julian, thnx and hadn’t noticed that, btw my first image is already out of the thumnail slots:P
The sss is a bit too heavy, I also have a close up I will post tomorrow probably, this one has less sss so it’s a lot less waxy.
Soulty, i was kinda going for a sunbathing dude, with sweaty skin. but you’re right, in this light setting it’s a bit to strong. thanks!

good job with the passes:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:

My final image for this guy for now, a big close up, hope you digg!

The texture is just perfect…if you post a close up of the full head so that we can get a good look as a whole

Here a full face render, as requested. The wrinkles feel a bit too dirty now, less SSS…

i love the details and the render…

great great model and a great great output. well, would you like to show us the passes ? specially SSS, I have no Idea as to how to work with sss in ZB… people talk about SSS pass… but I am confused please clarify

thanks a lot Etcher and Busnismanpatriot! Shikhar, I actually learned a lot from a few great artists here on this forum Yiannis, julain_k, and also CAK1776

the last render turned out really good. very nice balance between ‘cartoony’ and realistic.

Nice image! Has lots of style to it. :+1:
