WIP (nudity) - anatomy advice?

Okay, I hate to post something so beginner where everyone is so advanced…

I never modeled a whole person before, and I read a lot of advice on here about how important it is to understand anatomy.

So I’ve started this man, and I looked in anatmoy books. Problem is, each muscle is pictured using a different pose, in the book, in order to make the muscle pop. My only reference for the overall dimensions was a skeleton image I scanned, and I manipulated it to get the right pose with the arms.

So any thoughts on how to improve proportions and placement of muscles would be MUCH appreciate from all you anatomy buffs. It would be better to fix that now than when I’m done with all the details.

(I haven’t done anything with the head yet, or very much with the hands and feet. I know those don’t look good at all right now…)

i would say that your head is too small, the torso is too long, and or your legs too short, its looking good though, if you make those structural changes imsure that it will look a lot better

i was starting to suspect about the legs, but i didn’t realize the other things u said until you pointed them out. now i think i can see it. thank you!

i agree with the torso being too long and the head being too small. Also I feel that his leg muscles look too ‘lumpy’ I think that you could smooth those out and just suggest the muscle mass more. Also too me it looks like his hands and feet need some size adjustment as well. oh and one more thing…in the side view his lower stomach looks like its dips in a bit too far. Its a great start though. you are well on your way to a good lookin model. You also said that you are interested in learning anatomy and I think that maybe it might help to go to some life drawing class (if available) and do some sketching before 3d modelling. I know this helps sometimes. Good luck!!

so i’ve tried to fix the proportions a bit, and worked on it a bit more.
(he’s still nude. do i need to post a warning every time? hmm…)

still have to do the hands and feet, and of course the head… haven’t had the time yet…

i know i need to smooth him out a bit, especially the legs. i just find it so hard to decide which bits of detail to keep and which to lose, because if i smooth him too much, he’ll look like plastic… so i keep putting it off :slight_smile:

go 2 subdivision lower and delete the the upper ones, and then do the muscles, its very hard to do large parts of body when you have to much polys, the upper ones are for little details, i think you went to far, and its hard to not make bumpy looking muiscles :stuck_out_tongue:
