[WIP] Grok, the Orc

Hello, my name is Daniel “Sound” and I’m a brazillian. I recently graduated from an Advertising course in a brazillian university and decided to finally chase my dream of working with 3D. I enrolled on Vancouver Film School and I’m going to start a 3D Animation and Visual Effects course there on June 27.

Earlier in april I was talking with some people that study there and they told me I should start to learn Maya/Zbrush by myself before getting there, as it would be easier for me to follow along already having some general knowledge. So I got myself a Digital Tutors subscription and started learning 3~4 weeks ago). I did some maya tutorials on Character Modelling, Character Rigging and Walkcycle Animation and then went to ZBrush, and I fell in love with that app. Some tutorials later, I decided to model and animate a Orc named Grok (Because that’s the sound it makes when he bashes enemy heads). I got this little scene in my head I wish to animate, so I started to sculpt Grok on ZBrush, intending to bring it to maya later to animate.

Here are a few shots I took from the process:

I then did some skin binding, painted some weights… But It’s deforming weirdly in some points, specially on the arm joints and where the legs find the gut ;x

Well, I’m looking for some feedback and ways that I could improve my results xD I know I’m new to this 3D thing but I’m eager to learn and to improve, any tips, tutorial suggestions or links will be very much appreciated xD

I’ll be posting my updates here as I evolve

Looking at your gif, the upper deltoids deformation tells me something could be wrong with how the skeleton is weight painted. My rigging is a bit rusty, so I can’t say if it’s that for sure. I would play with painting the weights just a little more.

If that doesn’t work, could you post a wireframe of your model? It may give a better idea if the deformation is from the model itself or the weight painting.

Thanks for the help ^^
I got quite frustrated while trying to fix those deformations, I think it might have to do with the edgeflow I did on the shoulder, or about me not doing a real T pose (the arms were modeled rotated down), I tried fixing it while painting weights but I failed ;x

Here are the wireframes on the problem

You need to work a little bit in the anatomy.
