Wip - Alien Head

Here’s an alien head that I started. He will eventually be a monkish looking guy with a hooded robe, hair, a beard, and big round eyes. This is only the first couple hours of work. I’ll be posting new pics each day as the work progresses. Not much to crit yet, but feel free to offer advice along the way! Yes, he will have ears, although very small ones.

LOL, It’s not true, most women in Minnesota are short. Not much to say about Minnesota except it’s very cold.

looks like this is from a sphere polymesh, have you tried z sphere’s and box modeling yet? looks like a great start.

Actually this is a zspheres mesh. Basically, I created zspheres for the head, eye sockets, chin, and neck. I sculpted the mouth outward. I haven’t tried box modeling yet, although it would probably be the most logical approach to modeling this guy. Zspheres are a little frustrating to work with, for me anyway.

Just started working on the color map and I’m playing around with the fast skin shader in mental ray. Needs a spec map. I’ll post the model with finished color maps tomorrow.

Edit: Could we see your Zspheres for this?

The work is amazing indeed. If I could suggest, the neck should be thinner than it is as such would project the head more meaner, whilst I would bulg the head outwards on it z axis as, as it is, with eyes that big would mean that this chap has a very small brain proportion wise. I have attached the idea

Here’s todays update. I’m playing around with ZappLink. Pretty awesome tool. Only thing I can’t figure out is how to eliminate the seams that occur after projecting the image onto the mesh.

Hi agian,

I have seen that you have carried out the suggestion I have passed and I think it is looking more mean than before. One little concern, the brain according to my anatomy study, usually sits up at a higher level than the eyes, so if you could create the bulg as per my photo manipulation, it would keep 100% to anatomy studies…

What do you think.

Haven’t posted an update in a while. I’ve been working on the skin, lighting, etc. Any thoughts or crits are appreciated.
