Windows Xp question

I’m using XP at work and I’m always switching the file open window to “date modified” so i can grab the latest files. Is there a way to get windows to default ot this view? it seems to always defaul to the “list” view and not date modified. Just a little pet peeve of mine, i have to switch to details then click date modified I must do this 100 times a day.

Thanks,

D

Haha, I am not the only one… Not only that, it also does not support directory links and it only remembers that directory least useful for you. Sorry… unless, I as well, have missed a major point… we are doomed to work like that. Nothing in MS OS’s has changed that past 20 years. Still the same dumb way to navigate file systems without any abstraction layer to make it actually comfortable. However, I make any bet that they own at least 20 patents to do so…
There are options to set defaults for directories. But I had no luck adjusting those permanently… If you wish to loose your mind permanently, then switch of the extensions for known file types… And have the great OS sort out the right app to launch for you… rofl…

If I am not wrong, then there are alternative file managers… Let me search for them and see if they can be a good alternative. Like Firefox to the MS Exploder.

Found a few references… all seem better than the original…

Now… which one will be the best?! … Good that it’s weekend

at the top of the explorer window there is Tools:Folder Options go into View, and click Remember each folders view settings. You may then want to click Apply to all folders at the top. of course this is after you set the folder to the view settings you want.
one thing to note is that xp has a limit on how many folders it can remember, one way around this is to download a cool utility called Tweak UI, you can change many settings in there.

Yes, it’s not helping much… I took a look at a few of those replacements… but when an explorer window opens within a program, then the old garbage explorer shows up again, and the selection of various options starts all over again. Seems that there is no escape…
