probably won’t know those until the release date. So if you’re building a system for 4, I’d wait.
Yep. I don’t even own Zbrush 3 yet, my comp just sucks :D. I know Zmapper needs OpenGL 2.0 as well, and I don’t even have an AGP slot (there might be PCI cards that have OpenGL 2.0, but why even bother -_-).
Now that Zbrush 4 is coming out I’m thinking of buying it and a new PC. So yeah you are probably right, I should just wait for august, hopefully it is released.
You can get opengl 2.0 cards for pci…but you would be better off getting a new computer in the long run.
Reason being, you will have more/better performance in general with a new system. This will help issues like crashing in applications.
This is what I am running…and you dont have to go all out like i did but my system runs flawlessly in zbrush. (Maya and such do not because I dont have a developers video card so there are some bugs)
Asus Rampage LGA 775 $315
Q9400 Intel quadcore cpu $250
Mushkin PC8500 DDR2 1066 2 4x twin packs 8 gigs total $130
ATI Radeon 3870 x2 1gig (Primary) x4 dvi $410
ATI Radeon 3870 x1 512mb (secondary) x2 dvi $300
HT Omega Claro+ Sound card $170
This was originally bought in pieces over a 3 year time span and the original purpose was for a balanced rig for 3d and gaming. The prices are when I purchased the items. You can get better items (specially the video card) for much cheaper. I think an ATI 4890 2gig is about 250 bucks right now (Newegg.com)
I didnt know if you really knew what to get as far as an upgrade…but if you didnt, I would be glad to help out in the selection of things or just to give some answers if needed.
I am already seeing the need to go to a developers card like a Quadro especially for Maya.
ZBRUSH 4 woot woot!! <img src=“http://www.zbrushcentral.com/upload/atn.gif”>

Yep, I am upgrading my PC. I did a lot of research, asked a lot of questions and got the best (hopefully) build I could get for my budget. I’m ordering the parts from newegg so I can get a good PC for less.
Awesome! Glad to hear you found the info you needed. What does your new rig consist of?
Also, for future upgrades and whatnot anandtech.com has a buyers guide that is usually released once every 2-3 months or so thats pretty helpful.
