Why is there support for MAYA 2008 and not 3DS MAX 2008? Is this something users will have to solve themselves using the GoZ SDK?
No…but since they released and SDK who knows maybe someone will mod it in!
Besides, I thought Max is supported in 4?
I’ve never even modded games let alone 3D modelling software. So I certainly hope there is someone out there who still uses 3DSMX 2008 that knows how to do this. Course it wouldnt hurt if Pixologic gave us some tutorials on how to use the SDK and what we can do with it.
I have 2008 as well but no I don’t know how to use an SDK I still don’t have Z4 yet so
Lol, same here. GoZ was one of the things I’ve been waiting for since they introduced it for the Mac a year ago. Now I am slightly dissapointed, but still eagerly waiting my damn email.

Here’s to us then
Don’t know about Mac’s but us Windows users get GOZ for Max I saw a screenshot some place.
Yes, but in the list of features here - http://www.pixologic.com/zbrush/features/zbrush4/feature-list/index_zbc.php
It specifically states support only for 2009-2011 versions. Unless they FORGOT to mention 2008! Which I’m still hoping and praying the did.
I use Max 2008 as well. The new versions I find a bit bloated. I’d love to see GoZ for 2008+.
I would think they would support current versions, because in many cases, there are so many changes to base code that you need to write an entire new version hook.
There are still quite a number of 3d applications that don;t even have support, so I’d think instead of multiple versions to support older 3d applications, they would invest theri resources in supporting more current versions of other 3d platforms instead.
But they support the 2008 version of Maya which is also owned by Autodesk and does pretty much what 3DS MAX does. That’s what I don’t get.
I am still unable to activate my Z4 but my friend who also has MAX 2008 was able to get GoZ working. Basically he had to manually tell ZBrush where his 3DS Max was installed because it was unable to find it when it was scanning the hard drive. And yes, he was able to quickly transfer a Zbrush model to Max 2008. It does however take a few seconds to switch back and forth because it keeps looking for what appears to be 2009+ 3DS Max files everytime.
when I used GOZ for 1st time on installing plugin for Z4 [win XP] it found both 08 & 09 of Max - though I prefer to use 08 I had read that GOZ supported 09 & 10 so I opted to run it on 09 to save the hassle of re-jigging everything if it didn’t work on the 08 version. So I’m not saying it would work - just it got detected & I’d like to know if anyone braver than me opted to try it?
I got my Z4 working now and tried GoZ on 2008 myself and it works flawlessly. I’m able to export my ztool to MAX 2008, did some changes in 2008, and then bring it back to Zbrush where it applied the changes i made in 3DS MAX 2008.
Thanks TJX, your bravery has paid off & my cowadice has now left me with the very problem I sought to avoid - any idea how I reset GOZ to choose the desired App’?
In the tool panel, a couple buttons to the right of the Goz button is a button called R. Press that to choose your target Goz application.
EDIT: There are also buttons in the goz preferences menu to update/change the path to goz enabled applications.
Thanks Nstine
Will give that a look when I crawl out the Giant Pit of New Features I’m Currently Lost in
Okay, now can someone explain to me if GoZ is only a “one way street” from the target application? I send my ZTool to MAX via GoZ, do changes there in MAX, then press GoZbrush to apply the changes back in Zbrush. BUT… when I do some more changes in ZBrush and then send the ZTool again to MAX, instead of applying the changes to the MAX version, it exports the entire mesh as a new Element over the existing mesh in MAX. Am I doing something wrong?
