will i still get my subd levels if i retopologize?

hello im new to retopology in zbrush. i was wondering if i retopologized my model would i still have the history of my subdivision levels? for example… Sdiv level 1-6…if i set sdiv to level 6 with 2 million polygons and retopologize to lower subdivision will that neccesarly make the new topology that i created by hand into subdivision 1? or will it set it to some other level…also, out of ignorance i ask this question but what if i have 6 subdiv levels and i retopologize at level 4…what happens?? will topology 5 and up be automatically reconfigured with the new topology? im totally new to retopology and i want to understand it more better before i get myself into tinkering with it… also would anyone know a really really good tutorial they could recommend for retopologizing? thanks

you will retain all of your subDs when you retopo. Wel, if you have 6 subDs on your old model, and then you build your new lowpoly, then subD that to lvl 6, then project the sculpt. You will have 6 subD levels. If you subD and project at level 4, then you end up with 4 subDs.

The wiki has a good tut on retopo. also, scott spencers book.

When you’re doing retopology, simply set Tool>Adaptive Skin>Density to the number of subdivision levels you want.

aurick i did what you told me but all the details that i created is not being applied to the new retopologized mesh. this is how i do it… i load my 3d model, choose sdiv 6, click zsphere then click “rigging” select my mesh, click “topology” and click “edit topology” i retopologize but then when i press A i dont see the high details that i sculpted such as the wrinkles, bumps, veins…i see a low level poly the same way as i drew the topology… i click “tools>adaptive skin>density” and set density to a high level AND i still dont see none of the high level details thats sculpted on the mesh…how can i get it so that all the details that i sculpted gets applied onto the mesh? im real stumped and i really really need to know in order to continue my 3d model

nevermind aurick i found out how to do it…

TOOLS>PROJECTION click projection

alright thanks guys for your help

okay now im done retopologizing my mesh, i got the details projected onto my new retopologized mesh and i have myself a subdivision history thanks to adaptive skin>density. now how do i go about combining all this and making it and saving it as a ztool with the sdiv history, new retop, etc without the zsphere or whatever in the middle… so that i can continue to sculpt, paint, zmap etc. or is that an obsolete question?..is there such a thing as a combine-all-and-add-to-mesh feature or can i still continue sculpting, painting, zmapping by pressing A (Preview mode)? i dont want my model to turd out on me and have it all distorted or get any irregularity so its neccesary for me to know this… whats do the pros do after they are done like me and they are at this position?

Simply press Tool>Adaptive Skin>Make Adaptive to convert the preview into its own model without the ZSpheres.
