Why is Zbrush not 64 Bit? Workflows for texturing

Okay, so I have a character with multiple subtools, maybe around 16, I have 6 gigs of RAM, But I’d like do some high detail texture maps…In order to do that I need to subdivide all my subtools to texture them…Everything completely slows down, at around a total of 30 million Poly’s(between all subtools)…A lot of the time Zbrush crashes. I ended up having to do it piece by piece and exporting them into Maya in order to have it work all together.

I just wanted to know, what are peoples workflows for texturing characters for characters than have like 12 or more subtools. Do you subdivide all of them and then polypaint? Do you take it into other programs like Bodypaint? 3d COAT?
