Great News Man!!!
Awesome news!! Thanks ASW316 for the intel, this has made my weekend alot better! Bring on R2!
Hey Angus,
I dont suppose you heard anything about vector displacement for R2 at siggraph? Coz that would be cool. So relieved to hear about 64bit tho, thanks again
I so hope this is true - I might just throw a party:D
I highly doubt
that a revision release is going to have 64 bit, id be totaly shocked if they did that to be honnest, its more of a v5 feature.
Let my jaw drop if that was to come about in R2.
Just chiming in / bumping this thread about ZBrush 64 bit support…
Mudbox is 64 bit.
Could not this problem be solved by using bump map instead of texturing? For a low relief surface like leather or skin, I’ve been told that bump maps are the way to go.

Finely detailed sculpts are only part of the issue. I and those I work with run into Zbrush performance issues all the time when texturing 8k maps in Zbrush for example (a regular thing for us), and the issue will only get worse if Zbrush introduces the much desired feature of allowing you to paint across multiple maps.
Believe me, there are many reasons for Zbrush to go 64bit.
Although I liked ZBrush from the beginning despite the silly UI and so on and so forth, this comes to an end.
I didnt really try Autodesks Mudbox yet, but I think its worth to give that 64bit! Prog a try.
Every stupid kid is able to produce 64bit Apps today, why the heck Pixologic is not?
Its worthless getting those updates for free, when they are not 64bit and one is not able to manage big projects.
I woud definitely NOT pay for that crap, so I think wont others. So Pixologic has no income from updates, only from new users.
But new users demand 64bit as well. So I think the company looses marketshares every month, until its dead.
So it would be better for everyone to look out for an alternative.
I get exactly what you mean. I don’t understand what the holdup is. Pixologic have promised 64bit for ver 5 so Im willing to hold out till then. Regarding Mudbox, I have found that although it may handle larger projects and use more of your RAM, Zbrush still gives you better responsiveness while sculpting/painting. As far as I know, Z4R2 is more stable than previously, so thats something! It’s just so frustrating because ZB would be absolutely unstoppable with 64 bit. Anyway, try other sculpting software but you may find yourself coming back to ZB despite its limitations. I did.
hard first post…
Ok, you’re right. Sorry about that.
Think about all those customers that don’t post anything just switch to another package.
I’ll wait for V5. If it’s not 64bit that’s it for me.
(In the last few years waiting for 64bit, especially with V4 I thought by myself “Do they wait to be aquired by Autodesk or someone. Why don’t they do this necessary step?”)
Now that Z4R2b, sounds like a protocol droid, is on our doorstep I once again notice with some disappointment that the architecture is still 32-bit.
I don´’t want to sound like a negative Nancy but when, if ever, will we get to utilized our powerful 24gig RAM workstations?
I love the new stuff in Z4R2b. Looks great! Though is 64-bit something we will get anytime soon? Is it in development?
I have been looking for info on this for some time and never found any official statement.
If it is posted somewhere please link me to it.
Cheers.
Pixologic have already said version 5 will be 64bit

Thx man.
Really great to know it is in the works.
Cheers.
